  • Anyone going on the Rapha East Ride on Thursday night?

I have a pass for tomorrow, but I don't want to turn up like a Billy.

There will be a prize for the most professional looking Spanish styled rider - all I can think of is turning up in my Spanish Football top.

  • I'm going.

  • i guess it's all about the sombreros ?

  • i can't make it sorry, i'm getting my hair permed!

Just throw a donkey from the steeple of the nearest church...

Good-oh. My number's in the relevant thread if you want to stalk me.

  • Bike Snob:
"Another thing that goes over my head is philosophy. Sure, I suppose I can be philosophical myself, but sometimes I have trouble discerning where philosophy leaves off and marketing begins. Take "Rapha Continental:"
The Continental is about participation, exalting any and all who endeavor to ride with passion and heart. Central to the project is our desire to discover the places and people that do and have done the style of riding that we’ve only just begun to call – Continental.
I'm going to be completely honest here--I spent a decent amount of time studying this site (though naturally less than five hours, in accordance with my rule) and I still don't know if this is a line of clothing or a team or a philosophy or what. Every time I think it's something I click on another link that tells me it's not what I thought it was. For example, for awhile I thought it was a team, but then I read this:
The Rapha Continental riders are not a team. At least not in the typical sense, or the racing sense. We are a group of individuals united in effort and focus, and we do cooperate.
Eventually I gave up. I feel like something tremendously important may be going on here, but I also feel too dumb to understand it. I get confused by things that say they aren't what they appear to be. It's like looking at a Magritte painting--which, I might add, I also don't understand.

  • howdy all,

weather looks like it's going to hold - according to the BBC, and they're always right about everything most of the time - so should be a nice evening for a ride.

I'll be on my stealthy black pony wearing a red jersey, probably looking a bit dozy until I get to the pub, and then I'll look excitable and tall. Say hello if you're coming along, be nice to put some faces to names/psuedonyms. Oh, hi Jacqui, be good to see you (and Cuppa T in tow!) - it's Graeme here from the HQ.

    cheerio!

    Graeme/Chop

    • cue a spattering of raindrops on my window....
  • Saw a bloke in a red jersey - it was probably you. Hello belatedly!

  • hello back! 'afraid I didn't notice anyone in a leather peaked cap and handlebar, but maybe that's for weekends only... what were you riding/wearing/looking like? Good turn out for a polite roll through town, even thought the sudden downpour gave it a bit more character.

Did you see the guys in matching 'Arch-to-Arc' jerseys? they're planning to run to Dover, swim the Channel and then ride to Paris. Chapeau gents!

  • I was on a pink Surly, and look a bit like a girl. Probably all in black.

Didn't see the Arch-to-Arc guys, but I wish I'd thought of that first! I've always wanted to swim the Channel...
