flip flop will give you what you wish. it has 2 threads one on either side. one side has a lock ring thread the other doesn't.
if your wanting single speed you could space your normal freehub out to see if you like it.
ebay for a cheap pug or something similier for your first build. -

is that 100-150 for the frame only or 150 for the whole bike?

Well, prob stretch to £100 for the frame, all depending how much the rest will set me back, what you think? Couple of hundred - £250 would be nice for the whole build...
Cheers so far

Thoughts on this frame, anyone?

Cougar has something to do with Terry Dolan so can't be too bad, especially at 99p with only 21 hrs left, go for it son

I wouldn't bother if it doesn't have forks with it.. more hassles!
There is a beautiful Eddie Merckx on retrobike. -

Terry Dolan was the main framebuilder at Cougar before going on to set up by himself. Nice frames.

There is a beautiful Eddie Merckx on retrobike.Nice one, cheers v much for that link, what are the hassles in getting some forks? Is it that hard to find some to fit? I'll steer clear if so...
Thanks again..

I think getting a correct fork, headset + fitting, etc will push your costs (in terms of time also?) above the £85 posted the man wants for this pretty merckx. + it will be a mis-match.

If I didn't already own enough bikes I'd have that Merckx like a shot - it's a beauty.

+1 the Mercx is well nice for £85

What do people think of £82 for a silver velocity deep V, w/System Ex flipflop hub, including spokes and labour to build? Any good?
Ta!

that's a good deal, but try to get a fix/fix hub as a singlespeed freewheel can be attached to it, but it also means when you try fixed you can have two different ratios. it will save you money in the long run

How so? Sorry for being a fool but doesn't fix/fix mean...

fix /fix means it has double fixed threads.
you can attach a freewheel to both fixed threads and freewheel threads

Ok... looked around a bit since the above post, and have seen these. They ship to the UK.
Any thoughts? I know a lot's been said about Weinmanns, but my bike won't be getting loads of use to be honest, a few miles a day tops.
What do you think?
afternoon everyone...
First of all, I know similar questions must've been asked in the past, so apologies if I'm repeating, I've read / searched a lot on the subject the last few days, including this forum, and still wanted to start my own post...
Ok.. So I'm building my own bike, I'm staying away from pure fixed wheel for now, as I can see myself causing either myself / others some sort of injury!
Am I right in thinking I could use a flipflop hub to have the choice of either fixed wheel / singlespeed (ideally this is what I'm after, but if I had to choose one, it'd be singlespeed for now)
I've read a bit about theseon Sheldon's site, here etc... but must admit I'm still not ENTIRELY sure how they work, anyone fancy explaining it as simplY as possible?!
Also some tips on a good frame to start with would be a help too... prob got about £100 - £150 upfront to spend on the frame.
Cheers in advance to anyone who's read this, and again apologies if I've repeated other threads.
Tom
