not sure if you can re-assemble, i think the springs are pretty well tensioned before they are assembled.

You will need to fabricate some tools and the use of a vice, probably not worth the bother.

You can drop them round to me if you like, I have dis-assembled and re-assembled M520's successfully. do you have a picture of what one they are?

You have to line all the parts up, lightly grease everything, then chuck it all in the bin and buy some ATACs.

Tell you what.. you buy the ATACs bmmf and I'll test ride them to see if they really are better.
Then it will be case closed. :)
Anyone know how to reassemble the springs in a Shimano SPD? I think the model is 858. It fell apart in use. I have all the bits, and know what goes where, but the difficult bit is getting the springs back in tension.
The effect of the fall-apart was the same as I would have achieved if I had backed off the tension adjuster bolt until it fell out, and then replaced it (but I was not so stupid as to do that).
There must be a technique, or tool, for this or the things would never be assembled in the first place.
Clues, anyone?
