As more cyclists, then more people see cyclists, therefore expect to see and look for cyclists.

Also, I would hope, more people are cycling and therefore aware of cyclists when driving. I know I certainly am. I suppose, as well, more people know people who cycle; more people become involved in cycling-related discussions; everyone is becoming simply more cycle-aware.

That said, one death or one serious injury is too many.
