That policeman is a violent idiot.

its good if that action is true.
Cyclist did best job of swerving and leaning into guy, but he pushed so damn hard!

Got sent this yesterday, the bloke who was thrown off his bike by the police man was arrested, detained for 26 hours.
What can I say that anyone else here does not already known, there is a cultural perception problem towards cyclists within law enforcement.

cunt.

what the fuck! it's as if they're going "hmm, let pick on this one" surely the video evidence is enough to drop the misleading charge, especially when the police didn't even give a "slow down" sign.

there's jusitice in this world (or in America);
UPDATE: The AP is reporting that the police officer in the video has been stripped of his badge and gun and the NYPD has "placed the unidentified officer on desk duty pending the outcome of a department investigation."

I don't understand why he was singled out though...It's not like he was black...

It looks like the copper has decided to walk to the kerb, misjudged the speed of the oncoming cyclist, then decided he still deserves to cross in front of the cyclist, who has already committed quite sensibly to passing the copper on left, and the copper's violent uptight bastard instincts have kicked in.
The urge to get up and smash that fucker in the face must've been hard to resist, but it's better to wait and see if anyone's got some indy media first to use as evidence. If that ever happened to me, I'd be expecting tynan to leap out from behind a piece of street furniture, handycammed to the max.

that specific cyclist is a well known Critical Mass cyclist, so perhaps that's why.

well, the American one especially NYC is quite aggressive, the London one seemed quite tame.

Not sure if this helps to see what actually happens, but here I have motion tracked out the camera man's moving camera and slowed down the action:

I really don't know how that help, cause the video already show us pretty much enough to see that the policeman is doing the assault, and not the cyclist.

You are probably right, I was looking at the video for myself, I stabilized the motion of the camera that recorded it, thought it might be informative to someone.
Although I will say you might be amazed at how much information is lost by saccading eyes.

I don't think the NYPD guy was trying to cross, looked like he was lining himself up to take him down.
It looks as if he tried to take a few others out but they dodged him.

I would have thought that it was all the more reason to go on one.
Nutz!
