im sure itll still be confusing to your average 'civilian'
Imagine some italian bloke walking about town shouting 'track bike'
Go about finding a bike shop first, then ask them.
If you have internet access (as it seems) make the most of the many translation possibilities and find some velodromes etc..

the velodrome in rome is rottening, completely abandoned...
http://www.bbike.it/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=129
this is the website of the only shop that knows what a fixed gear used on the road means...
but if you have some time the best thing to do is to go around the old cycling shops around town and ask for track frames (telai da pista) there are cellars full of track stuff around..just forgot there from the 80s...
if you are lucky enough to find some stuff you will get it for really cheap...like frame a with good tubing for 200-250 euros...good luck!
oh contact also the guy of this website:
http://www.movimentofisso.it/
he should be from rome... -

In genova there have never been a tradition of track cycling but might happen to find something.. is not a big city... have a look in the shops.
in my hometown one of the best places I found was like this:
the guy running the shop was a frame builder in the 80s and he still has a lot more frames and stuff than what you can see in the pictures... he also raced keirin for a few seasons in the Japanese foreigner league ad used to win quite a lot...
anyway, in the last picture there is a fluo yellow frame.. it's now my frame, nice columbus tubing, got it for 200 euros, campagnolo headset, cranks, bb, aeropost, and turbo saddle included...amazing!
oh, about the last picture...
slack chain... -

That's the sort of place certain London bike shops have wet dreams about, then if they find one their haul will be sold on with 500% mark up. That's business I guess. Seems like a holiday and a scout about could be the way to go.

as far as I know is what BLB was doing with their "van tours" around the continent...
The first time I got in the shop I was quite in shock about the price they were offering stuff that my lbs would hide in the cellar...
but yeah, gues it's business mate (to read like "what do you expect, this is brick lane mate"..)
in the pictures above, confused in the general mess, there are some amazing experimental frames, like thin double top tubes and downtubes or early carbon fiber frames made using carbon fiber tubing glued to steel lugs...about genova here is the list of bs:
http://www.paginegialle.it/pgol/4-biciclette/3-genova
most of them will probably be most on MTBs due to the hilly nature of the land and the nice freeriding areas around...but you never know!

are the controlled explosions to demolish it, 2 or 3 days ago... ready to build some new estates :-((
the velodrome was built for the olympics in rome, i think in 62 and was an outdoor wooden track... madness even in the kind italian weather! -

velodrome in forli - the old giffers there were fantastic, we popped in just to have a look and they showed us the track, had a chat to the italian junior track champ and they gave us a club pennant

Any fixed gear ss shops in Italy? I'm heading down to Rome this summer for a few months and wondered. Also, does anyone know what Fixed wheel bikes are called in Italian - or French for that matter?
speed is velocita'.
"una velocita bicicletta": is my attempt.
