Ah, James Joyce.
I read The Dubliners at college, but never anything else. Worth looking into? -

That's from Finnegan's Wake. I struggled with Ulysees and found Finnegan's Wake totally impossible. Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow is next on my list of Joycian books to read. To be honest I only know about "three quarks for Muster Mark" because someone cleverer than me managed to name a fundamental particle after it.

Finnegan's Wake is it? What an erudite crew. Mac here too, but no Widgets.

I've got a PC. (someone had to do it!)

Me too. Several of them. Some Windows XP Pro, some Windows 2003 Server, some Ubuntu 6.6, some Ubuntu 7.04.
The one thing I don't have is a mac. If this site doesn't work good on macs, then feel free to buy me one and I'll fix the problem.

Unfortunately David, it works fine on a Mac - would u expect anything less??

Not really, but the HTML for Vanilla is a little strange. It's like they wanted to see how much of a forum they could write using nested lists. Tables used to be the crime of web designers, now it's nested lists.
I really wish people would learn how to use HTML.
And it's a shame the site works fine, I hoped for a moment someone flush would donate a Mac Mini.

Nested lists are way better than tables, but I suppoose Lussumo were so obsessed with creating the first modern forum application that they went a bit mad with their XHTML - I must admit I find Vanilla to be excellent, what with all the plugins etc...

The plugins are great, but I wish Vanilla had worked out a more efficient system to manage plugin files.
Take a look at the number of included CSS and JS files in the source... it's crazy.
Ideally they would be all included as one request and cached.
Also, a lot of plugin writers are so excited to make a plugin they seem to have no concept of scalable and bug free code. I had to re-write the members page, fix the GoogleMaps one, and write my own plugin for sitemaps.org compatibility.
So they are great, but I do prefer vBulletin's inbuilt hook system over Vanilla's extension system. The former allows you to actually change what the forum does, the latter only allows last minute add-ons.
