• Having real trouble getting hold of anyone using their number on the website, and no response to emails. Anyone have a number that someone will actually answer? Trying to see if what i want is custom order or not. Cheer

  • Same problem for me, although I know i can't aford to pay them for at least a month so I'm not getting too stressed yet...
I did get an email response from them a while ago after enquiring about a custom order. They said that they're order book was so backed up that they weren't taking any more. Is that a sign of the times or just the fact that they have a small staff?
I emailed them yesterday actually asking for RAL codes for their colours! Not really expecting a response this side of September, but thay should be ok for me.
I will be wanting to know if adding full chrome forks really is £0.00 as their website seems to suggest, so if you get through ask that too!

  • I called recently, and it was picked up almost straight away. Just the number on their site.

  • ^^ what time of day (or night) I have been trying on and off for about 2 months, then couple of times a day for the last week?

  • Call Dave Yates and get him to build you a frame.

  • they're closed on wednesdays... try again tomorrow? they always pick up after a few rings when i call...

  • They are both busy and understaffed, bless em. But yeah, they are closed wednesday. Just had my bike delivered after 9 months, that was a custom frame. But an off the peg frame (still handbuilt but using a regular jig) takes loads less time, about 3 months.

  • Girlfriends dad is mates with Dave Marsh, might see if I can get him to build me a 'Marsini' custom. All I want to know is how much a full chrome frame will be, then order one.

  • Wouldn't worry about it.

When they picked up the dog they were sufficiently rude and unhelpful for me to take my money elsewhere.

  • My experience was very god....I always spoke to a chapcalled Darryll....nice as pie.....OTP but took 11 weeks because i had the forks chromed but they fitted my own BB free of charge. Daryll told me that for the next few months they were not doing any custom frames. Only prob with Dave Yates, Roberts, Argos etc is cost.....if you have the money c£700 and upwards....fine but BJ OFP is £345.....delivery without chrome c6 weeks......made on a proper jig to your spec [to a limited extent...1/2'' increments and a choice of mudguard eyes or not]....full range of colours and a five year guarantee.......an alternative is Steve Goff also well reknowned but in Skelmersdale near Liverpool...he got a mention in Cycling Plus frame builders article 2 months ago...can look him up on the web. But based on my experience, i would happily recommend BJ.

  • steve goff looks good value- £290 for a brand new 531 frame.

  • They are both busy and understaffed, bless em. But yeah, they are closed wednesday. Just had my bike delivered after 9 months, that was a custom frame. But an off the peg frame (still handbuilt but using a regular jig) takes loads less time, about 3 months.

Was made up a couple of weeks ago when my company sent me on a 2 day training course to Leeds. We finished early on the first day and I thought ' Great , Bob Jacksons here I come' I never really go to the North of England so it was a great chance. DUH ! then I realised it was Wednesday and they are closed, was damn sick! And they were only 1 stop away on the train, gutted!

  • Call on the number given on their website. Paul is the guy I dealt with from the 1st instance. They are tricky to get on the phone so send through an email too. Emails are best anyway as they are a record of who-said-what (and what exactly you specified them to build).

Be patient, it may take a couple of days for them to get back to you. I is also holiday season too.

Also try them on Saturday mornings because they're about then too.

    Answered pretty much straight away.

  • http://villiers-velo.co.uk/Villiers-Velo/main.htm havent used this firm myself ,but they look pretty good

  • Saturdays are a bad time to phone Bob Jackson's, as the shop is full of knobheads wanting innertubes for their Barracudas. If you phone early enough on a week day(10ish), you'll catch Paul or Daryll after they've had their bacon egg and sausage sarnies and four pots of tea, and customers aren't knocking about yet. They're both quite amiable at this point, and will only give you a moderate amount of abuse. There's no chance of getting a custom build for a while yet, as their order list is insane.
And the number i've got is 01132559844. Always gets answered.
Oh, and it sometimes helps to ask if it's true that they know the secret of where all the cows are kept, and where all the milk comes from.
