will this be dominated by serious roadie riders?
Nope. Worse than that, it'll be dominated by gnarley old men who ride at constant speed irrespective of the terrain. Get ready to be whupped by someone twice your age....

These are the exact sort of people I was hoping to hand it to! Cant wait

This late in the season thoughs gnarley old men are doing 600 km rides not 100 km. Unless it's a 100 km ride that links onto the start of a 600 km ride.

And there's a maximum average speed isn't there? 30kph or something.
And you have to wear sandals and use a mudguard and have a beard and cue BB telling me off for stereotyping audax again. Hook Line and.. :) -
• #6
LOL. Well I saw there was a minimum average speed of 13KPH. Which seemed a little low.
So would show boating, racing people and generally riding like an idiot, which I am prone to bouts of, not be appreciated at such an event?Only reason I am gonna do it is because it starts pretty much outside my house

Do it and report back.
-
• #8
Will do
-
• #9
I'd still like to give some of these a go (loads cheaper than sportives although navigation is my big issue) so your report will be useful to me as a fellow showboater :)

I could be up for this Mike. Will confirm when I am back in London. I too, am prone to the odd bit of showboating though.

^^Cool. We will show the oldies how it should be done. Food and drink at mine after if the weather is good - Actually thats a moot point, if the weather aint good. I won't be doing it

Show boating, fair weather riding... there is no way you are Audax material with that sort of attitude. Beards are for warmth on the cold wet nights, not for the ladies in the pub at the end.

I might do this. Should we wear false beards, or would that be considered irreverent?
-
• #15
He used a flip-flop?
Lightweight.

• #16
I'm still up for this, as long as the weather is nice, of course

Yeah count me in Mike. I'm back from France and after missing the Dynamo am keen to get some long rides in. Are you entering in advance?
-

Link to a write up about a similar story here. Same guy I think but on gears this time. Either way sounds like a horrific experience.

Cool,
I missed the dyanmo too. Ended up at Lovebox which I was far from impressed with. I got an email from the organiser. I printed off an entry form, and yes you can just turn up on the day and pay. I can copy some for you if you like.
Only 100Ks, should only take an hour ;) hopefully the weather will be nice and I may put on a bbq at mine afterwards if you are up for some food

Just in case you're worried about getting schooled by decrepit looking old men, Audax UK also run an award for the youngest rider to complete a 200k solo (i.e. on their own bike rather than on a tandem). In 1982 the award was won by an eight year old.
Who wants to be his bike was heavier than yours?

Paris Brest Paris. This was run as a professional race from 1891 to 1951 ( usually at 10 year intervals, maybe to give the riders time to recover) Probably the best report of the race is from Miroir Sprint for 1951. It is on the web and Google should find it for you. Even if you can't read the french, the pictures are great. Pierre Brambilla, who came 4th, was said to be so pissed off that he went home and buried his bike.
The winners time was 39 hours odd for the 800 miles. And that was before EPO was even thought of. -

Yep, back when men were men.

and amphetamines where amphetamines
-
• #25
yep and that
Anyone up for doing the 100K one of these. Not sure why they are called Central London, but the start point is 200 metres from my house. Should be a nice ride if anyone else is up for it.

Anyone who has been on an Audax before, will this be dominated by serious roadie riders?
