London, not safe again

  • Morning: take 6 year old to herne hill (its his birthday)
Lunch: Pizza on the northcote road
Afternoon: Lambeth Country show and endless fairground rides
Tea/dinner: Very nearly get my kids killed by a 40 strong South London gang and get locked in a restaurant on half moon lane by riot police. And I thought Herne hill was a nice area.

  • Makes me nostagic for the 1970s.

I rode over Putney Bridge to Fulham late afternoon. Loads of riot police blocking the way around Putney Bridge Station waiting for the sweaties who were playing a "friendly" against Fulham.

  • Did these guys actually threaten you?

  • Did these guys actually threaten you?

No because the police were there in force. But in the first few seconds 15 of them slammed against the window, clearly backing up in response to the police, and I momentarily thought they were coming through. Had the window broken I dread to think - I would have probably instinctively lunged to defend my kids and suffered the consequences. Another four ran into the restaurant and pushed past the table -but only so they could run to the back to change and leave.

Im sure they werent the least interested in me/us but equally sure that had we been in the way they wouldnt have been in the least interested in taking care to avoid us and four and six year olds tend not to come off best when being walked over by a crowd of 40 blokes. It was all no big deal in reality but you take nothign for granted when you have your little kids in tow. If you have little kids you would know.

But yes, it was pretty mcuh like a tooled up football firm, usually no bother unless you are also a member of a tooled up football firm.

  • I guess the catchment area of these summer shows organised by the council (we have one in Southwark) covers the territory of multiple gangs, who think they have to turn up to assert themselves against one another. Pathetic, really.

agreed, life is too short. A great world city and no one has shown them how to look beyond the end of their noses.

  • Goddamn straight it ain't safe again. Well, as of next friday...

  • fucking cuntgang.

gangs are useless unintelligent twatface, I love the irony that they're formed in order to 'protect' a piece of area, that's legally owned by the council, not the gangs.

  • The plus point being that mostly they are going to aniliate each other and not us.

the minus point is that we could be in the way, like balf's son if the inept gangs started a fight, nobody want that.
