The Fuji is awesome for the money
Wheels are fine. Not great, but a decent starting point, as you say.
Looks nice, too.
Fit a brake (post on here, bound to be some knocking about) and ride.
Maybe change the rear cog to an 18 tooth, I think they come 48:16 as standard, which is a little hard work. You can get Miche cogs for around a tenner.
