The guy is fast. I really hope he isn't a drug cheat. The mind boggles how he can go 55mph+ on a road bike after having already cycled over 100 odd miles

If he can do 55mph he really is on drugs! 65kph (ish) more like...

sure hope not

easy. in the middle of a 100+ pack, he prob freewheeled over 50% of the distance.

Cav is 2nd for the green jersey now but short of Rabobank leaving thrown the Tour for doping (again) I can't quite see him catching Freire.

Did you see the dude from Grolstiener(sp) hit that sign. Bike snapped clean in two n thrown 8ft in the air then walked away.

yeah, that was some crash / breakage. trumps the folding wheels on the Giants last year. glad he was okay though - did he finish the race?
well done to Cav - once again all the big sprint guys were there and once again he showed he is fastest

He pretty much has to hang in till Paris now that he's second on points, just in case Freire crashes out or gets another of his nasty saddle sores...
Might see some interesting sniping for intermediate sprints too, unless Columbia are saving all their energy to protect Kirchen's GC position.

nimhbus, are you starting to like the cavalry now
He's backing up the billy big bollocks manner now, big time.
Only 21, four stage wins, possibly five if the champs elysses becomes a bunch sprint, what more does he need to convince you that he's the real deal.I for one am enjoying his continued success.
yep, fair enough, he sure is delivering.

Jonny - Will be joining you for both of your afternoons of TDF watching beer quaffing relaxery next week.
Anyone else going to join?
I'll be there both days. Might have to limit alcohol intake on Wednesday as I'm going out for a posh dinner with gf and her colleagues. She'll be right mardy if I rock up inebriated. :-)

was clocked at 74kph at the end of yesterday's stage.
46 mph is scarily quick - i rarely hit that speed downhill.

I doubt he'll finish the tour.

How can he resist the draw of the sprinters world cup on the champs elysees?
I think he's got a team who want and can get him there. I'll be disapointed if not.

The lure of the Olympics is greater this year. He'll pull out in the next day or two. Won't want to kill himself nor risk injury in the Alps.
Next year he will win the Green Jersey.

yeah I want to see the Brits wipe the floor with everyone on the track at the games so in a way I hope he pulls out

Yes 46 mph is a bit more realistic than 55!! Still bloody impressive though after a good 3 hour cycle

He'll never make it out the other end of those 3 nasty days in the alps.
If he keeps his attitude towards getting as far as possible then hopefully next we'll see him down the champs elysees!
The guy in that crash didn't even look like he got road rash, could have been a lot worse with the pack going that qiuckly round him to

He lost 15 minutes in those last few kilometres. One imagines he came down (on his arse) with one hell of a bang so I'd be surprised if he's injury free after that. They were bombing along at the time of the crash.

Thing is that in the pyrenees he (Cavendish) nearly finished out of time if it weren't for hanging behind a car for miles and miles... If Columbia didn't have Kirchen they might 'sacrifice' one or two riders to get him through the alps in time so he can finish high in the green jersey race and maybe win on the champs elysees, but I think Kirchen's GC ranking will be more important so there is a possibility he won't make it over the alps.
Question is wether he's willing to sacrifice his chances in beijing for a 2nd or 3rd place in the points classification when most experts will say he will have more chances in the years to come as he is still quite young to complete a tour while having given so much. Going over the alps will make it really hard to recuperate in time for the Olympics at his age.
Still, it would have been nice to see him battle it out with Boonen (had he kept his nose clean)and a McEwen (with a team working for him)... that would have been a sprinter's world championship... Nevertheless, quite impressive what's he's doing (please let it be be clean results). -

Nice one Cav!
That Sven Krauss crash look ouchies. -

I'd love to have seen a better camera angle of the crash. He must've kicked the bike up in the air as he summersaulted over the road sign. Crazy,

Amazing last 10k.
Doesn't look like Cav will take the Green if he makes it to Paris now, what with Freire winning the sprint
Again.........brilliant
