From Wikipidia... Named after the Bob Dylan song Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, the movement was a reaction against the post-Bauhaus "black box" designs of the 1970s and had a sense of humour that was lacking at the time in design.
The furniture is an acquired tasted but the patterns are awesome and have influenced many fabrics & elements of fashion produced since

it's begining to look good again the Memphis stuff. In 5 years everyone that hates it will be claiming they always liked it. That wheel looks great too, not for my bike but maybe on a nice pastel pink frame with pastel green forks it could be an 80's electro slave bike.
Top dollar though.

Memphis Design parallels Marmite.
You're right about the comeback, it's not going to be mainstream though, the lines and colour combinations are infiltrating furniture design and architecture while we speak by a generation of designers schooled in the 80's beginning to have influence in their field. It was a fun & childish vision of future design at the time, a visual rebellion to form & function. Design became sterilized in the early 00's, now you will notice the Memphis playfulness being injected back in by the aforementioned generation while keeping all the good bits of what we already have.
Anyway, I have some stuff for sale

I've got a few bits and bobs for sale...
One 98% brand new Bacterio patterned Aerospoke REAR 700c inspired by the Memphis design movement of the early 80's. Purchased from BLB a few months ago and recently customised with gloss black vector cut vinyl decals to a very high standard. The wheel has been used twice and is in perfect condition... very true and clean. The stickers are high quality vinyl & will not fall off or peel when wet unless you start picking them, even then it is tough to get them off, and they don't leave that sticky crap behind that cheap stickers do.
SOLD!
Front & Rear white Velocity Deep V's laced with DT Swiss spokes to Surley Ltd ed Jim Brown copper anodized hubs. Front wheel is machined. This is a super tough quality wheelset. They have been used around London for the past 6 months so are beginning to show some signs of wear. There are some scuffs on the white paint and there are a few spokes that could do with tightening. They are not 100% true at the moment but that can be easily fixed at your LBS or by yourself if you have the skills.
The rear hub is fixed/ fixed
SOLD!
Sugino 75 crankset with 165mm cranks & 48T Chainring anodized champagne (not standard silver) These were purchased from Cavendish for £195 about 6 months ago, there are a few scuffs from kerb contact on the bottom of the cranks but overall in good condition. Everything is true & straight and the threads are clean but slightly stiff. All bolts inc.
SOLD! Contact iamphil if you want them
All items are available for collection from SE15 just off the Old Kent rd preferably, or to meet Central London.
