Brake with good crown clearance

Posted on
  • The gap between the hole for my brake and the crown is too small to fit most brakes. I have a campag chorus that I would like to use but it does not fit, top of the front bolt jams against the crown. Cause I am rubbish at explaining, a diagram seems to be a sensible idea.

Tried a couple of brakes, champag dual pivot and shimano tiagra won't fit. Miche performance will, but that is black and I want silver (and I need the black one for something else)

Any thoughs on either where I can get a silver miche, or any other caliper that is kinda skinny up top?

  • I had the same problem, but a couple of washers gave me enough clearance for the headset.
No flexy problems as my front brake is crap anyway.

  • if it's just the bolt can you file a flat spot onto it? so it ends up like this...

Tried it, can't space it out enough before I run way out of bolt, big old campag crown. Even if I got a longer bolt it would put the caliper in the middle of the wheel to get enough clearence.

Might have too, but there is a lot there, would take a very long time to file and probably mess up the rest of the caliper slipping with the file.

I have circled the bit that is causing the problem, not my bike of course, just some random picture

  • dismantle the brake, but the nut in a vice and file it/grind it down. Unless it's threaded or has grooves to retain the spring it should be easy
