Storage Advice

  • A bit of a pickle I could do with some help on. I have two bikes at the minute, one tourer and one fixed. However, I only reasonably have room indoors for 1. Seeing as I use the fixed most often I'm looking for somewhere to put my tourer until me and the missus get our own place (living with her mum while at uni). I don't want to leave it outside to sweat under a tarp and a shed is out of the question.

Does anyone know of any decent/cheap long term storage options? Could be anything up to a year.

Some kind soul with a large garage perhaps?

I don't want to sell it either as I wouldn't get what it's worth to me due to the amount of effort I've put into it, if you know what I mean.

  • does she not have an attic?

  • already full I'm afraid

  • do you have secure parking or similar at work mebbe?

  • Take the wheels off and put them in your wardrobe and your frame under the bed. Basically take it to peaces until you can stuff bits all over the place.

  • drill a big hole in the wall. attach a massive hook. and hang it. then get kicked out of girlfriends parents house. now you have the whole world to store your bikes in. :)
or strip it and put it in various places.

  • Wardrobe's full, I don't have a job and there really is no more room in the house, I have to fight for the space my tools are in. 7 people in a 3 bedroom house :S

  • Get rid of some other shit, ie. make room. Why is the shed out of the question?
Dismantle a bike and store it under your bed/behind sofa/in cupboard?
    Move out quicker.
Can it be locked up outside safely? Is it expensive? Yell.com storage places nearby.
7 bikes and a gf in a studio flat.. anything is possible :)

  • Lots of room in my basement (Parsons Green), provided you don't need access that often.

  • I was going to recommend my ginnel and then just realised that Fiddy has more bike space than most people I know. Just don't look under the patio.

  • Hippy, your gf is probably more understanding about shiny turny things than mine! Underneath of all beds are already taken up by storage boxes. It can be locked up outside but it will rust, fast, its carbolite. Got bugger all money, hence the no paying for professional storage and the not moving out for a while idea. When we do move out I'll be paying most of the rent so I can make sure I have a whole wall dedicated to the hanging of bikes, possibly even a whole room.

Fiddy, I'd be [strike] sexually [/strike] eternally grateful if you could fit it in your basement. I shouldn't be needing access to it that much at all, hardly use it in London. It would only be used if any longer rides came up and even then mega notice would be given.
