Did anything ever come of this?
I am in the same boat.
Currently refurbishing a 1962 Dawes Double Blue ... and looking for 27 x 1 1/4 whitewalls for it.
Regards.

look up schwalbe land cruiser.
They are available as whitewall in old skool sizes 26 1 3/8, 27 1 1/4 etc
Also, Michelin world tours are available with pale skiwalls I think.

get thee to the Herne Hill jumble on sun. Maybe not whitewall but I got some nice all black ones. but really, if you can get the brakes to align, put 700s on (hear the puppies cry!). Will save you a world of hassle.
As a helpful bikeshop assistant replied when asked where I could get 27 1/4 tyres: "1978".

Yes, I'm still interested.
How wide were they though? I thought they were more like BMX width than old racer?
Free tickets to the PCC along with the cash still available.

LOL.
Getting 27's [ black] seems to be no problem at all... also getting 27's with amber walls is no problem, as bristly pioneer found above.
It's just the whitewalls that are the problem. -

They had gum walled 27s at HH last time, if you're not gonna make it I'll get a contact for you, should they show up...

I've just acquired a 27x1 1/4 inch fixed rear wheel. I want to go for a vintage look but still be able to skid without going through the tyres. I was looking at these...
Can't tell what tyres to get. I reckon amberwalls are cool and these are Schwalbe 'puncture protection'. Ironically, I'm put off by the fact they are cheap though.

I'm thinking this is going to be a never ending search.
I may go for amber walls then pull out the white trainer shoe polish and get all DIY on them?
I'll let people know how the experiment goes.

it's a plan then.
I'll not be around, but if you go to the box office with the tyres they'll give you the tickets and envelope.
shall I put them as scrapper or do you want to PM me your real name?
Hello,
I've got a LOVELY old dawes fixed wheel bike (which i'll try and post a pic of soon). However the tyres on it are in pretty poor shape. It's got 27 x 1 1/4 wheels, but the only replacements I seem to be able to find are with amber walls. It came with some lovely old whitewall ones and I'd like to replace like for like.
does anyone know a place I might be able to pick some up? I've checked ebay and several bike shops but the only white wall ones seem to come in 20" or 26".
is there a vintage bike parts shop anywhere, if not, should I try and open one?
