shot and stout and lager and alcopops and..

clearly, high viz yello not only improves visibility but alkso morale.
the evidence is clear to see.dour darkly dressed folk surrounded by dayglo happy nodders.
-
• #430
it was their sunny disposition that caused them to choose the bright clothing in the first place
-
• #431
that lanky sod behind hippy is postively loving it
maybe he sits above the cloud level though, and remains dry
-

If you knew me you'd know that I'm smirking my arse off.. that's as happy as I get.
-
• #433
that's not true, you're about 20% as happy as normal
that's tea, not cider.

Are we meeting at the pub on Bethnal Green before this the same as we did last year?
-
• #435
been of the booze all week as part of the training regime.
drug free dynamo this year. -

You're disqualified then.

How many of you are doing this geared and how many fixed, then?
First time I've ridden this kinda distance, so thinking geared for the sake of sanity. Fixed is tempting though, my fixed wheel bike is tiny bit more relaxed geometry than the geared bike.
-
• #438
fixed cos I don't have gears.
I have double-sided though, 71 or 67 gear inches depending on the can-be-arsedness
-
• #439
fixed.
i am fitting another cog on the flop side of my flip so i have a gay 69inches instead of the usual HTFU 73 if i can't handle the pain. did it fixed last year too. -
• #440
fixed cos I don't have gears.
+1.
Did it on 48/17 last year got 47/17 this time.

I'll bring some coffee beans for that grinder then, stomps!

Ah, you've seen me go up hills then!

I'm not surprised you fear them, that's still 74.6 GI
I know some people gear UP for dunwich cos it's "flat" but after 6 hours anything can feel like a grind, hence my get out of jail (hopefully) 67
I used to run 44/17 which is 69, a great all round gear. it's not a time trial
-
• #444
yeah, 48:17 is a little bit of a grind, i can vouch for that.
-
• #445
Last year 48-16, this year 47-16.
Not as fit this year though so will probably feel the same.
The only training I have done this year is ride bikes with 28c and 25c tyres on my normal commutes and errands.
-
• #446
How's this for weird; some bloke got a picture of me and Scott on last year's ride
We turned the wrong way after this pub and put in extra miles - let that be a lesson to you all, don't just follow the red lights like a lemming.

It's 72.7
We'll have none of your dirty 47 / 17 * 27 mathematics here. -
• #448
I only do dirty maths.. easier for comparisons: 45x17 for 71" versus last year's painful 42x15 75"
-
• #449
I usually use 700x23c for my calcs, but then people argue with me anyway!
can't win.

More important than the gears or the size of the tyres - which colours should we wear?
Since it's a night ride, should i use white tyres, or fluor colours? Or just plain yellow?
short and stout?
