Me again.
Has anyone knocked off the caffeine for the week? I have and I feel terrible!I did that last year. It didn't help so this year I'm keeping my caffeine intake as per normal but I'm going to grab some caffeine pills just for a laugh..

Who said anything about panicking?
I've ridden several sportives over the years so I know how to handle myself. Thanks for the tips though.

i was talking about myself, and how i panic before and then with days to go relaise its a doddle anyway.
even if its pissing with rain at the start, the ipod speakers start buzzing after 4 hours of monsoon like precipitation, the i-pod itself decides to regularly street surf, the only spare tube was ashort valve (not ideal for the deep section rims - thanks whoever you were for saving my ass), the rizlas stick togather, the spare rizla in the ziplock back also stick together, and then it begins to rain a little harder.
lovely stuff!

its getting fine by the evening and a sunny arrival.
at least its predominantly a tail wind.
anyway, as last year proved its only water, never harmed anyone!

The BBC can't even tell if it's raining when it's raining on them, they are useless fucks.
-
• #410

I'm not coming or anything but though I might watch you leave London Fields.

people instantly talk about "getting wet" when it rains but I think that's the last thing to worry about on a wet ride, for example:
wet roads slow you down, the water creates more friction which means you have to work harder.
it's fucking slippery so more chance of a crash.
shit gets on your wheels, more chance of punctures.
shit gets on your bike, water washes away lube, (slightly) more chance of mechanical faliure.
water in the eyes/on the glasses means you can't see properly, so it slows you down and makes you crash and die.when you've got all that to think about, getting a wet arse don't seem so bad, eh?

well, from hearing about last year, getting soaked on a 7 hour night ride means you could get seriously cold..

Who taught you physics? There is less rolling resistance when it's wet not more.
The rest is spot on.
As you were.

Yes, but the morning was warm and sunny.
I'd much rather be riding in the rain, and waiting in the dry.
Anyway, wear waterproofs. It won't keep you dry, but at least it protects you from the wind which is what really cools you down.

there is no such thing as bad weather,
you are just waering the wrong clothing.

I dunno, it always feels more of a slog when riding on wet roads, though doesn't it?
I'm not talking about aquaplaning, but in practical terms (not on paper) wet roads are slower
-
• #419
I like adverse conditions.. it usually means most others have gone home crying about the conditions you mentioned above = clearer roads. :)
-
• #420
yeah but you actively seek out water, le Poisson!
-
• #421
By this time last year I'd already talked myself into it so it didn't matter what the weather was going to do - I'd have felt too bad for bailing. Same this year. Even if I do end up wanting to kill myself by halfway...

no wonder you look so unhappy, there's some "I'm a little teapot" standing next to you!
-
• #423
i remember the look on Brett's face in that pic from last year! it haunts my dreams, and is why i'm not going this year
-
• #424
Brett was a steam train last year. Toed myself and DDM all the way!
-
• #425
No he didn't. DDM and I rode off from you lot because we were so fucking cold we couldn't hang around. You caught up again when we'd started doing circles around some random roundabout. :)
I AM a little teapot..
foolish sam,
never do anything out of the ordinary, your body woint like that!
Its just a longish ride.
anyone can do it. if you get tired, stop for a bit.
start slow, enjoy yourself.
get twisted if thats your bag, stay striaight if your so inclined.
Its around 7 hours actual time oving. spread over 12 hours, you get five odd hours rest ffs.
every year the panic and planning.
great!
