Wanted: Headset stuff

Right, today's regrease saw that the bearing faces of my headset cups have pitted, probably have been for a while but wasn't paying enough attention.

So I'm looking for a stroke of generosity from someone who might have a 1" threaded headset they have no more use for, doesn't have to be great, just free, unfortunately. I know it's cheeky to ask for something for free but I'm pretty broke and will be killed/castrated if I buy anymore bike stuff.

Also, the crown race is to big for my forks, very slightly. I knew this already and it's liveable but if I'm replacing the headset I may as well ask if anyone has a few spare I could see if one fits.

Anything would be greatly appreciated. I could stretch to a pint or two at south drinks or some mechanical help in return for the goods.

im in clapham and i sorted the pedal situation, if you need anything else of shit quality ie bb or forks than i got those too they are attached to a broken frame ive had for months and cant bring myself to get rid of cos i wanna strip it but dont have tools

I may well have a look. Are you about tomorrow? I could come over and strip the whole thing, relieve you of the headset and whatever else. Then you'd have it all stripped off.

Dug that out this morning, I'll bring it along on Monday night... Beware tho', it's very old and seems to be made out of old tin cans!

that's more than fine, mine's hewn from solid granite and was last heard of in the late cretaceous period

thanks to Teenslain I now have a replacement headset, still need someone who has a few crown races knocking about as the one I have is too big
