Well, thats what I argue with him about. I can't condone his actions whatsoever as I always tell him that if I see him I will deliberately try and ride into him ;)
Just letting everyone know that there are some people out there who really fucking hate cyclists. And my friend is one of them -

And they just wait for you to get through the green ped light just to prove their points and continue their hatred campaign so if you prove them wrong, their silly arguments fall apart.

it's all just spurious misplaced anger. "oh i'd knock off the cyclist" blah de blah. what a crock of self-indulgent, masculine bullshit.

i also get fed up with the morally superior tone of those people who have children.
Very valid, i remember driving through camden when i had to brake sharp because some pompous tit decide to cross the road with his three young Gap clad kids, he scowled at me as did his frumpy wife and they then proceeded to talk their kids across the road, completely ignoring the fact i was waiting...
Wrong, Irresponsible, arrogant and on the moral high ground. Add that to the fact they were 40yds from the Pedestrian crossing.Wont go into detail how i resolved the situation but the no-one was hurt

I have a friend who seems to have a pathological hatred of cyclists. He tells me that he ALWAYS tries to kick, punch or lanunch some form of attack on any cyclist who goes through a red light while he is crossing. He is a tough guy, 6th Dan Ninja or something so if you see him, avoid him. We have many arguments about his feelings. Hes a great bloke though

Slightly off topic but would like to share.
Followed a green framed single speed from W1 to EC1 and if you ever go through a pedestrian crossing when I am with my kids you are going down. Hard.
Thats all.i ride a green framed single speed - although actually it's fixed with only the front brake, so probably not me (plus i didn't ride that way). i did hit a woman on the way home this morning, though - working nights, cycling back through this area of bloomesbury and suddenly a woman steps off the kerb into my path without looking. fortunately, i was going fast enough but with enough control to both stay on my bike and swerve enough to only hit her hand, thus knocking a pile of stuff out of her grasp all over the road. of course, i couldn't stop because of the line of cyclists in front/behind, but i managed to look back and she was still standing and sheepishly looking at how to recover her belongings! :-)))
i'm not saying that. i don't think riding across ped crossings is acceptable. pedestrians do have priority. but also thinly veiled threats to knock people off bikes, if you were with your kids, suck as well. you weren't with your kids.
i also get fed up with the morally superior tone of those people who have children. (this is not an attack on growup) the biggest paradox is that the need to protect one's family engenders a selfishness towards others; the sole point of focus becomes the family unit, and this alters decision-making in every shape and form. this in itself is not a bad thing per se, it's also unavoidable, bit of a catch 22, etc, but it does lead to selfish decisions, and it's the moralising that underpins this that i find a bit depressing. i mean, if you don't have kids it doesn't make you an amoral being. in fact, it often means that your sense of responsibility is directed outwards, to others in general, and not in the microcosm of the child-centred universe.
i teach children, and care deeply about young people. i also recognise innately the pressures parents face, but also recognise the insular and scarily singular set of rules and codes that come with being a parent, because i see those pressures spray outwards. and personally, i'm not a fan.
*if you ever go through a pedestrian crossing when I am with my kids you are going down. Hard.
*this statement is violent and not cool.
+17 to everything pj said - except i am a paediatrician and i hate kids (except the ones who don't cry, i.e. intubated or asleep). not.

i always try to "kick, punch or lanunch some form of attack on an" pedestrian (or car) who goes through a red light while i am cycling.

Thats all."The harder the better, irrespective of the fact that kids may have been on the crossing.
Can I take it you think it's fine for me to deliberately nail a ped who's crossing on my green light, 'the harder the better'?
Cool... I'll remember that.

Seriously though. I do not think it is acceptable to go through a green man when there are kids, old people pregnant women or any 'vulnerable' people crossing the road. Sure if the crossing has just turned green and you are in the middle, or if they are no where near you, there are exceptions. But generally, people really ought to stop at the crossings.

I agree.
I'm sick of this stupid macho posturing crap. Threatening to knock people down on purpose is fucking stupid.

I was doing about 30 -25mph down the end of Tottenham Court Road,
Regent Park end, and the Euston Road junction crossing lights were all set green,
green for me to go, legally to pass through. Right ?But you'd be wrong, seconds before i started to get across the barricade of lights, people,
like sheep,
started flooding the road from each end, no chance of stopping, i aimed for the centre of the road,
hoping i would get through the gap, before they totally impeded my route.
I was braking hard, endoing slightly and skidding.
Not fucking one person noticed i was coming so i resorted to expletives like 'Fucking MOOOOOVVVVVEEE!'
Just in the nick of time, i managed to get through, skimming past a few people, scaring them to death.
It also scared me, knowing how close the whole thing was.
But the lights were green for gods sake.Lesson
" never assume people will stay put when the red man is showing"
It's not always a cyclists fault when people get hit.
But i agree, crossing red lights when people are obviously crossing is bad. And i always wait like a car would before crossing. Always.
However, when people are not crossing, and it's red, it's the cyclists choice to cross or not, cos only he/she is at risk, against other cars or whatever.
In most cases its more than safe to do so, and i admit to doing it all the time.Whether u have kids or not nonpluses me.
Hit a person with your bike, kid, pensioner, woman man or beast, it's all equally as bad.
Obviously some members of society are perceived as little precious treasures,
namely kids, hence why i can understand this attitude people have when they have their kids with them.
It's definitely understandable IMHO. -
• #75
It's understandable, for sure. I still think it's dumb to post threats into thin air.
So when that cyclist is in hospital and pressing charges against some cockhead with a grudge, what then?
