Rollapaluza have got two of these:
http://www.jbsmusic.co.uk/view/2221/
they actually work quite well and they have a battery built in! Which we've tested over 6 hours at 60% volume, comes with good quaity mic, ipod dock, 3 line-ins and one line out....
just charge up, drop your ipod in and strap to your trailer....oh yes, they're pretty sturdy too.

Yeh i've seen those and they're very nice, looking to build my own though, and something that will bear the Great British Weather, Have got my fella onboard so might be ok, he knows nothing about audio, but knows a good deal about electronics - which is my main problem.
Thanks anyway though :-) -

I've got a friend who is selling their in car audio system which, I believe, is 2kw. It will run off car batteries no problem, will be fucking loud and is designed to be enclosed so waterproofing shouldn't be too much of an issue, if you can knock up some cabinets. Do you want me to find out a price? I think he is looking at £400+, perhaps too much? I was looking at it but can't justify the expense right now. Maybe a group buy?

woah, way too much for me I think :-)
I'm looking to spend a max of 150 on the whole thing, including building it!
found an amp that looks like it can do the job for 50quid, turns out my fella as a battery that could power it, so now we just have to build the speaker cabs, which shouldnt be too hard.
I'm not looking to build something that will be mahoosively loud, trouble is with that is that batteries to power something that big would be really heavy.
I've taken some inspiration from Sam's rig at www.bikeology.net which is really big (seen at CM quite a lot) but his weighs nearly 100kg and 45kg of that is battery! -

Sam the sound man is my hero, I love his recumbent set up too.

yeh he's a legend, as a birthday suprise at the Freewheel last year I got him to play Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday" for a mate of mine whilst he was parked at the Bandstand in St James Park. She loved it, and she had a go of the recumbant. I want to see the new smaller rig he's made 'Dirty Sanchez' but havent seen him on the past couple of CM's.

yeah, i started the ball rolling on a soundsystem a few weeks ago, but i've been busy moving house the past week or so. and now i've got no internet connection in my new place so i've barely been on the forum.
maybe we could combine our efforts?
someone on the other thread offered a car amp to the cause and i've got access to loads of bits of an old soundsystem (albeit in newcastle). i've got some bass bins in mind that would be perfect and are just sitting in a mates garage at the moment. -

I need to measure up my trailer chassis -

sam: white elephant?
not unless you've been building sound systems on the quiet.
Incidently I was cycling down Kennington Lane towards Lambeth north yesterday morning and noticed in massive letters on the side of one of the buildings 'ASM SUPPLIES' or something similar, I thought 'my havent you gone up in the world'
Have you seen it? Meant to get a pic for you but didnt have my cam with me. -
• #12
haha! Do you mean ASM MUSIC by any chance? I must take a photo of that.
Also, my parents gave me a tape player when i was about 9, and i used it for years and years to listen to the radio, and only noticed about 2 months ago that it has 'ASM - ANTI SKIP MECHANISM' emblazoned in big red letters on the front. :D
White elephant (i think) is the name of a soundsystem some of misterk's friends put together in newcastle, i wondered if they might have dismantled it... I hope not, it was fairly epic.

Yes thats it! It was early sunday morning and I wasnt really awake enough to remember, its quite an epic sign.
It would be nice to try and get something together for the rest of the summer while we have it.
Mr K I you have PM -

sam: white elephant?
yes!!
matt and chris (who built it) aren't living in the toon any more. so it's not going these days.
the pangea kind of took it's place.
our mate jody is running dubstep nights under the white elephant banner now though. and we have plans to start white elephant fm soon! -

Sam, you can have my fuckin stupid yellow 6-spoke for the front of your trike :)
Pangea is also the name of a night in manchester uni? Any connection there?

Here's a good description of the issues you're going to have to deal with
http://www.zenatode.org.uk/sop/
In summary, bass is your main issue. The more you want, the more you're going to have to tow.
I carefully towed about 70 odd kg a few days ago on my trailer and it wasn't too bad.

you can get super cheap 12v amps on the ebay
-

Sam the baby pashley looks bloody great! I look forward to hearing it sometime.

With all due respect though, those amps are super cheap for a reason, they don't do their stated power, are inefficient, and lack proper protection, you'd want to buy low end stuff of decent brands if you're going down the low cost option or buy 2nd hand. If you want parts gimme a shout and maybe we can do a group buy or something, or I might even have something you need.

If u need advice on what audio equipment to buy I can provide that as I used to build competition systems for cars (yeah that chav shite you hear). It all depends on budget, I would also advise getting a Maplin catalog, not only for toilet reading but you can get a lot of good stuff from there.

Wise words....we have bike powered 12v systems that run off the Rollapaluza rigs....those amps were so cheap, we bought double the amount we needed and treated them as disposable!!!

hehe, ouch though, they be some expensive disposables! But then I think Mach 3 replacement blades are expensive at a tenner per go.

Me and a friend are wanting to do a similar thing, inspired by the soundsystem at the march the other week. We know the guys that made that and so are going to get some tips from them, but we thought we'd like to make one that could link up to a bike. We will also be looking to do it on a minimal budget as we are typical soap dodging, scrounging students. But thought it would be a fun piece of kit to have and use around the south.
Any help would be totally gratefully recieved!
OK I know there has already been talk of this, but I'm not sure of the progress.
I've just acquired a small trailer that I would like to adapt for a sound system.
trouble is I know fuck all about building it from a power/wattage/speakers
I know that I'll be using a car audio amp, a deep cycle lead acid battery and some speakers with a cab built around it, but thats all I know.
So, questions are:
Basically I want to build something that doesnt weigh more than 40kilos (otherwise it will be a complete bitch to pull) But has a decent sound to it.
Here is a picture of the trailer I picked up the other day. I'm thinking of only using the chassis, and putting a wooden flatbed on it and building the speaker cabs around it.
It would prob connect to something like an ipod shuffle or nano, but standard 3.5mm jack plug.
Thoughts please?
