Single speed conversion weird brake

Posted on
  • Hello,

I'm helping a friend convert her old peugeot racer to a single speed, (then maybe fixed).

anyway, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out the rear brake.

The frame she's got, has a vertical hole through the rear bar that you bolt a brake onto, rather than a horizontal one (like every other bike i've seen)

any clues where I can get a brake for this?

I guess, perhaps this should just encourage her to jump straight into riding fixed?

    Yes.

  • There is ana adaptor that was used BITD.

    check this thread from bikeforums.net
(everyone should google questions like this with 'site:bikeforums.net' in the query box!)

  • great, thanks for the help,

I'll get hunting on ebay for a mafac brake, or perhaps a cheap fixed rear wheel!

  • make an adapter. it's hardly a complex bit of kit.

  • I'm just a bit concerned that anything I make will snap off if the brakes pulled hard.

it's not an MTB mate, just try not to use MTB brake levels, as I think they pull too hard for road brake.
