How are yo you going to cut the hex fitting in the end?
I'd just go to clerkenwell (spelling?) screws and ask if they have some in stock. They seem to have everything like that and don't mind if you only want to buy 4. Just take up the ends or original bolt so they can check the size.
Sorry if you already knew all that and there was a good reason for making them from rod...
