  • Just realised that I've put my chain on upside down as the K logo is upside down. Don't know how I missed that when putting it on. Will it cause much of a problem?

  • of course man, you have to put it right or if not the tension of the chain will be negative, bad bad thing

  • Often thought about it, and I dont think it makes any difference, as any wear will be in the rolling bushes.

  • you could always fit an inverted sprocket to deal with an inverted chain.

  • ride it upside down!

  • the inverted sprocket will be a valid solution, i think

  • I should have said it's not just the logo. The chain isn't symetical as one side is slightly more grooved, but I don't think that would make the chain sit any lower.

  • Ok, just ordered one off eBay! Cheers guys :P

  • now thats a different kettle of fish if it's on inside out too.
you'll need a double inverted multi directional sprocket to deal with that. bit hard to come by these days but used to be run of the mill.

  • :'(

  • dont worry about it the outer plates might not look symetrical but the pins and rollers are and as they are the bits that take the strain just ride it.
oh and the plates take the same strain no matter which direction they are on so enjoy.

just don't take any close ups of your chain. :P

  • Bloody hell, sounds like you've got it on back to front as well as upside down and inside out.
    Epic Fail...

  • Hates, could you post some pics, so we can have a better idea of the problem

  • yer than i can get my first "slack chain" comment in even if its not. :P

  • don't make a laugh of this novocaine, this is serious stuff

  • I think that if you perform a perfect 540 bar spin from no handed trackstand, going into a 5 metre fakie nose-manual you will find that the chain has reversed itself.

    Worth a shot?

  • sorry I shall hang my head in shame.
i do beleive that to get an inverted inside out chain to auto correct takes a 900 bar spin with a no handed no footed trackstand and a 5 metre fakie nose manual to barspin to correct. however i think it's safe to say the bike is now damaged beyond repair and you should go buy a new OTP

  • Hates_, their making fun of you. If your chain is on upside-down, all you need is some "special lubricant". About once a week should do it.

  • all you need is some "special lubricant".

  • I rode my chain upside down for 3 weeks and no issue.. except getting the piss taken out of me at east drinks... ;)

  • Hates_ ignore them all !

Yes you can have your chain upside down, all 'anti-drop' systems on chains (especially 1/8 BMX chains) need to be on the correct way, with the grooved bit nearest the cog.

My KMC Kool Chain SL (or whatever it is called) needs to go on a specific way.

This way up (when the chain is at the top of the drive chain) is correct - sorry for the crap picture.

    • sorry for the crap picture.

    Sort the white balance out.

  • Sort the white balance out.

    racist

Ah, in that case I have to switch it as I'm running the same chain.

  • You need an inveerse chainring and sprocket. Or keep ones already on there, but when pedalling normally, you actually travel backwards.
