You make a good point (perhaps not deliberately) - but maybe the police are looking for reasons to stop and search people to try and get on top of the knife problem ?
dimi3 how old are you ? I reckon 16-25 might put you into the target market.
actually I am 28, but look like 23 or so...

Luckily it was a quiet day for the police with only four people being stabbed to death in London. Gave them the opportunity and resources to crack down on real crime like cycling without lights.
Don't forget the important crime of being black and driving..:)

I would never make a good point deliberately.
Being the wrong side of 50, am I able to ride secure in the knowledge that I am unlikely to be stopped, searched and charged with possession of an Allen key?

I know a couple of 50 year olds who are pretty handy with an Allen key (imperial of course).

They say you are never more than 6 foot from a rat in any of Britain cities.

oh dear. There are good police and bad police.
I find being exhaustingly nice to them helps a great deal [when cornered by them], they love to be respected. However this treatment seems a bit harsh.
Shrug it off, most police in my experience are NOT like that!
In fact in most cases they have actually been good to me.
So, don't take this experience as a reflection on the whole system.
Taking a bad attitude towards the bill is worse in the long term. -

Yeah !?
It's a great video, it shows the other side, it shows all the real crap the police have to deal with every day and how well they handle it. It shows how well they deal with the serious stuff.
But that bloke is breathlessly stupid, so he stabs (and presumably injures or kills) the policeman, what does he do then, stab each and every police man that comes at him, then using his master criminal skills pick the fortified lock on the door and then walk past desk officers he was dragged past going the other way 5 minutes ago ?

He was treated remarkably well there. I would assume he was giving his kicking once he was out of the way of the cameras?

I find being exhaustingly nice to them helps a great deal [when cornered by them], they love to be respected.I agree, either ignore the police and calmly, and without increasing speed or making it obvious that you have seen them, disappear up a side street (but don't obviously flee when the police are right in front of you) claiming you had not seen them if whatever they think you have done is worth them chasing after you- or do the very opposite and be very compliant and look terribly sorry for whatever it is you were meant to have done, that can usually be enough to satisfy their needs.
I can honestly say that when I am out and about on my bike, I am more wary of the police than I am of being being a victim of crime, I realise the police are more likely to just treat you like shit, detain you against your will, maybe fine you and at worst arrest you while the bloke who mugs you might have a knife - but (as misplaced and stupid as it sounds) it is the police I feel more threatened by.

Got to give the police their credit here, if that was me in the room with Mr Stabby I would have missing fingers and a few holes in me by now, the policeman was on top of the situation in around a fifth of a second !! (5 frames at UK PAL/25 frames per second).
Skill !

Info here on how to make complaints about the police
http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/
http://www.thesite.org/homelawandmoney/law/introuble/complainaboutpolice
Report it to your local cyclists group etc..some interesting information here
http://www.ralphsmyth.me.uk/citycyclists/policeclampdown.htmlWhat would the complaint be exactly though? I don't think you'd have much of a case for any kind of formal complaint. As much as it may suck. Police will just say they were doing their job.
