• Hey can anyone in Hackney recommend an Off License with a good / better beer selection than the usual: Heineken, Red-Strip, Grolsch, San Miguel, Becks, Stella, etc.. fare...

There just doesn't seem to be a decent selection anywhere in hackney - and there are no Odd-Bins or Threshers etc.. ie dedicated booze shops.

  • The Tesco on Bishopsgate has more of a range than that. Can't be too hard to find somewhere east with funky beers surely?!

  • Not Hackney but surely you could pass by

    http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1163/20408.php

  • Yeah I found that list myself. - but do they have a verified range of beers?

A lot of the places on that list seem to be just the typical little corner shop offy that has the same 6=7 beers as everywhere else.

I think i'll try a few on mare st on the way home but I knwo i'll be disapointed.

  • Spitalfields guy, Quaffs for Belgian beer. Think he's only there Sat though.CHeck his site.

  • Pitfield Street Brewery?

Somewhere on Broadway Market? Costcutter on Hackney Road has got Hoegarden, Newcastle and some other english ales.

  • argh, now we are talking:
    The Beer Shop
    14 Pitfield Street, London , N1 6EY

  • I haven't been to the Beer Shop (link above) for ages but their stock used to be amazing

  • something a bit closer to Hackney Central would be nice though

  • DIdn't the Beer Shop close down like 2 years ago?

Edit: Quick google reveals "*In January 2006 we closed the shop in Pitfield Street but continue to

sell online from this web site and at [Farmers Markets](http://www.pitfieldbeershop.co.uk/farmlinks.htm).*"

    Edit: Fuck I'm good.

    Edit: Steak

and more useful oipening hours, round the corner:

Old Street Tea and Coffee I think its called, great stuff in there... a few fancy beers, all the Pitfield stuff, good french cider and excellent wine & spirits... opposite The Reliance ish. And good baccy, cigars all that jazz.

  • there's a dedicated booze shop on kingsland road, 25-50 meters down from the kingsland rd / dalston lane crossing. Not too sure about the range of good beers, but it's a whole shop full of booze so should be something decent in there. Or it's just 50 kinds of shit beer...

  • boardway markeyt is good for beers at the dove. its near where i live in e9.

either drink the nigerian 8% guinness or fuck off back to notting hill.

    ;)

  • I found a bottle of super tennants once with no alcohol percentage.....in hackney

  • yep I went past that 'The Beer shop' last night on the way home and it is indeed closed up.

I didn't see the tea and coffeee place.

    • the Kingsland Rd one (just down from Dalston intersection) has a somewhat wider range of beeers than most. I was in there th eother day - its ok.

    • The Dove - yes I'm aware that the Dove has a larger than usual range of lagers and Ales 'on Tap' but I was specifically asking about Off-Licenses...

  • Why not a supermarket? M&S Mare St. Tescos Morning Lane etc.
Otherwise it's all a bit samey round there.
    Don't remember any speciality shops...

There's a place at Victoria Park?

  • oh I haven't tried the M&S on the narrowway.

yes the Tesco's is Ok. it has a better variety than everywhere esle. (The Sainsbury's on Kingsland has shit selection though)

  • I found a bottle of super tennants once with no alcohol percentage.....in hackney

Yeahh! Those mad mini SuperT bottles, I remember buying those when I was on the rock n roll down Sarf years ago, for like 59p each or something. I've always loved Special Brew in a bottle too, for when you're ravin on the cheap, reminds me of heady student days down the Welly in Hull, two bottles and three bifters and I was set for the night

  • so far.. no real solutions. so i'm beginning to think there are none.

  • There's a Thresher's at the junction of Victoria Park Road and Lauriston Road ?

  • so far.. no real solutions. so i'm beginning to think there are none.

    Move to west London?

  • There's an offie just up Broadway Mkt from the Dove that has lots of different beers, not so many of them cold though. It's on the same side of the road, nothing but spirits in the window.
