measure centre to centre of 2 corresponding bolt holes. then refer to Sheldon to get the BCD [he has a really useful table]

on a related note, is there a perferable bcd? obviously not the obselete ones, but is there a reason you'd ride 135 over 144?

^ smaller BCD means you can run smaller chainrings. 144 BCD 41 teeth is lowest 135 BCD can go to 39 (maybe lower?)

take the millimetre measurement between two chainring bolt holes then times 1.7 for a five arm crank spider or 1.4 for a 4 arm et voila!
