Cavendish writes for the guardian. Cocky little fuck aint he? Although he does have reason to be.

will he make it to the end?
-
• #231
not sure he is meant to make it to the end. thought he was gonna drop out for olympics prep
-
• #232
He wants to finish but I reckon he'd be silly to. It's just gonna fuck up his sprinting ability.
Hills and sprinters don't mix. -

see, thats fucked. at least old man mcewan rides (suffers) till the end -
• #234
Yeah but he ain't in the Olympics.. or if he is he ain't gonna win.

Sorry, I should have thought about that. It was a dick move to post whilst the stage was still underway and I will be more circumspect in the future.
Although, to be fair, in a thread about an ongoing race, there is a good chance that there will be information about the progress. And when do details and results stop being spoilers? It's not as if a poster is going to know when everyone has had a chance to catch up on the days action and therefore be able to discuss it freely.
Yeah I know but its not hard to add a little bit of text before posting something that may be a spoiler.

Hes said he thinks he will.

Consideration? From the public? Are you mad?!

I don't see him going to the end this year. Once he hit's those hills, the Olympics are going to weigh pretty heavily on his mind. He's a cocky, egotistical, glory grabbing wee sod and trudging up mountains with the the threat of the broom won't rest well on him if he thinks for a moment that it'll jeopardise his success on the track.
I reckon he'll be out by the 15th stage at the latest.

Death of Cavendish :

What is with the anti-Cav stuff? Finally you Brits have a rider who can play with the big boys but all you can do is tear him down. I've never understood the propensity for hating on the homegrown talent.
Henman was slated for being a weenie with no confidence or grit and never winning Wimbledon; Cavendish is being slated for being aggressive and confident and then backing that up with results.
Pick one.

henman was a gayer!! (who earnt $70mill BTW)

Cav is a great bloke and a great winner. Did you see him after the stage yesterday? Fighting off the media so he could thank his team mates for the work they did. Hardly the behaviour of an ego monster!
He wrote (or his ghost writer did) that he didn't think he was strong enough yet (ie old enough) to compete for the green jersey but he'll try to make it through to Paris. Hardly the attitude of an arrogant man. And the pure sprinters of yesteryear used to pack up and leave at the first sight of an uphill slope.
Winning tends to require a winning attitude. Cav knows that when it goes right, he'll likely win. And he's got proof of that. Great stuff! Chapeau Mark!

C'mon, after congratulating his team mates, he was lapping up the attention. Besides, I don't have a problem with him being a cocky git. For now it'll probably be the making of him. I just think the psychology of his performance in the mountains will get to him.

He finished the Giro last month. The mountains in the Giro are much, much harder than the mountains of the Tour.

Not saying he can't do it, just that the expectation of the Olympics and the best way to prepare for that are now a factor.
And just to make it crystal clear, I won't think any less of him if he packs and heads of to China tomorrow.

I think if you had just won a stage in the Tour de France, after years of graft and sacrifice, and thus achieved your life's ambition, you might enjoy the moment too.

i am not hating on him aroogah, i love the little rotter. i even quite like millar even if he is a bit of a cous cous eater.
-
• #248
Hmm..."cous cous eater" must be some of your local "rhyming slang" - I'll buy you a pint of the black water later and you can explain
-
• #249
There's enjoying an acheivement and there's lapping up attention like a thirsty kitten in a milking shed.
Don't have a problem with it though. He's done one of the few things in this world that entitles people to be smug. Hope he keeps up that level of self-belief, it may well lead him to win the whole Tour one day.

I wouldn't say Cav is arrogant, high in confidence and little close to the line. But those pistons stuck on the bottom of his body have to go all out to cash the cheques that gob writes, if thats what drives him on then then let him keep shouting. His team were great yesterday and if he works as hard for them on the later stages he will gain even more respect. but i can't see him in the top 20. if he does stay on
