Enough ! It will pull more than enough, you can use it but your modulation may be a little reduced, I have run MTB brakes on road calipers before without much problem, not perfect but workable.
The thing is a proper lever will only cost you a few quid.
MTB lever pull lots of cable.
Road lever pull a small amount of cable.
BMX lever pull a small amount of cable. -

These might be a bit more favourable.

Thanks Chaps
I am looking for a flat bar brake - would either of these do the job ?
or
Cheers

Either should do.
Are you mounting on flats or drops?
Can make a difference to the aesthetic in terms of feel and comfort.

It'll be on the flats of chopped n flipped drop bars
-

Should be fine with anything really then.
Just check the mounting advise before buying. The two above say they'll fit any bars.

Or these:

What type of cable do these use - the bmx kind with the round end or the road king with the teardrop end?
-

they are designed to be used in-line with a road set up as a secondary lever mounted on the tops of drop bars. When used on their own, you can use either type of cable, but road ended ones seem to sit in the recess a little better

Nice, thanks, I might get some of those, they look nice, but wondered how they are set up. Cheers.

I have those cane creek ones, good levers, whatch though as there is two sizes 26mm and 31.8, also if you decide in the future to run 25.4mm bars the 26mm are far far to big clamp wise. Set up wise you can run your cable out of any side of the lever, you can also adjust the levers reach. The only thing i dont like about them is the hinge on the clamp, depending how you mount them the hinge can dig into your hand.

I'm looking at getting one of these crosstops in the 31.8mm clamp as I want them for oversized bars. Tektro also do a similar version for a few less quid. Does anyone know if any of the BMX levers e.g. Dirty Harry, Goldfinger etc. can be found in a 31.8 clamp also?

I have these on mine:
http://www.tredz.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=20115
They're great. Nice n small, light and have plenty enough 'pull' to lock the wheels if thats what you're after.
I think someone on these boards de-anodised a pair of the same levers, made em all shiny.

resurrection....
Does anyone have any experience of these Tekto cross brake levers?
-
• #23
just search "cross top" ...
FYI i use them on my bike, they are compact, and do the job well, although be careful not to over tighten the clamp, as its quite fragile.

Specialized cross top and Condor branded levers work well (I think these may actually be Tektro).

Will something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROMAX-ALLOY-BICYCLE-BIKE-BRAKE-LEVERS-LEFT-RIGHT_W0QQitemZ130235647709QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130235647709&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318
work properly with a bog standard single pvot side pull 12 year old Shimano 105 front caliper - ie will it pull enough cable to brake properly without hitting the bar...?
Thanks
Matt
