Looks great, I'll be gettin' my Black Panther shirt out for this one...

...and for those going out or if your telly is broken, catch my band - Bea and the Honeytones - at The Kings Head in Upper Street at 9.30pm-11pm - it's free to get in.

Or you can come cheer me on in running the JP Morgan Chase Challenge. A 3.5 mile run around Battersea Park, in the pouring rain, without having trained for it at all.
And I actually paid £20 to do this. I should have my head checked.

I'm off to watch this tonight with a young lady:
It's on at The Southbank for the rest of this week if anyone else fancies it.

I'll be the midget wearing a Gore-Tex cycling waterproof, huffing and puffing and lagging far behind everybody else.

Did anyone catch this last night? I thought it was superb - told by the people involved and a reminder of how deeply ingrained racism was in US society in the late 1960s.

watched it as well andyp,
well made, good tunes, a critical insight into what was behind the salute, the motivations and the desire of the athletes to change the system, to break it and make something better for themselves and those that come afterwards. Thought it was really telling in the interview with john carlos and tommie smith after their salute (forget who the interviewer was, english well known sports commentator) when they were asked about the gold medals and the martyrdom that the salute had given them, and john carlos said that gold medals wouldn't put food in his childrens mouths, or in his neighbours childrens mouths.
And the fact that it took 16 years (til the 84 olympics) for their salute to be given the recognition it deserved right then and there. -

Finished the run (3.5 miles/5.6 km) in 31 min. Got shoved left and right by a bunch of blokes twice my size, trying to overtake and carving their way through what they perceive to be the path of least resistance: me. Woke up this morning to the realization that running muscles definitely ain't the same as cycling muscles. Owwwwwwww.

I did the JP Morgan run last year (and am doing it tonight) and could hardly walk the next day. I rode my bike the next day and that cleared up the aches and pains really well so I'd suggest you go for a spin (if you haven't already).
I've done some training for it this year - don't want to be in agony again!

Does anyone know if there's any truth in the story of Ali chucking his Olympic medal in The Hudson after he was refused service in a diner? It's a well known story but could have been part of the Ali hype-machine.
-
• #17
I think it was filmed - I'm sure I saw footage of it once in an Ali documentary.
-
• #18
Hmmm, if it was filmed it must have been a reenactment. I'm not saying it didn't happen I just know what a great publicist Ali was.

Going to go and learn some tricks tonight with Robofoxx and Julio. Probably at the polo courts around 7-7.30 if anyone wants to come along?

More likely than not in my opinion. The medal has not re-surfaced (no punn).
And Clay, as he was then, was the kind of man to do such a thing.
I prefer to believe it, anyway

Just goes to show the history of that shoe! I'm a big fan of States/Clydes/Suedes etc.
I have a hightop pair of them at home too. Unbeatable classic. -
