would it not also leave a funny spoke pattern ..maybe?
roberto says you can build a 12 hole rim with a 36 hole hub, but thats different agian

so doing it wouldnt be comprimising strength or safety?

the lacing would be all wierd. that is to say, you couldn't use a normal spoke pattern, and if you did try, you would have to use different length spokes to make it work. you can get away with this if the number of holes in the rim is divisible by the number of holes in the hub, or vice versa, but otherwise some spokes have to reach further than normal, and others less so.

You could possibly do it with some sort of crow's foot-like pattern. Not sure I'd like to do it on a rear wheel, though.
what happens if you use a 32h hub on a 36h rim?
