yes, defo need straps or clipless pedals.

Do it. You won't ever regret having more control of pedals, only regret having less.

personally, id start off without em till your comfortable riding fixed(week or so) then get some and wear em loose till your used to em

try straps on freewheel first maybe so you can practice the disengage?

Get straps. They're essential.

isn't it more sensible to get use to either clips or strap first before going fix? at least for one or 2 days... took me a week to get use to clips...may be that is just me

Go clipless. It will change your life.

I would try clipless first to, but as suggested, try em on freewheel first. Don't wanna be learning too many new things at once. I personally thought it was harder getting used to being attached to the pedals than switching to fixed.

before i bought my fixie i tried my mates from work one night when i had a flat tyre on my bmx and he kindly cruised back with me. this was the first time i rode a fixie (and only time before buying my fuji track 6 months later) and used the pedals with the straps pointing down. When i bought my fixie, i quickly tok the straps off and put some old eclat bmx plastic pedals on, just to get used to riding. About a week later i put the strapped pedals back. Definatley worth using flat pedals at first for a short period of time.

Learn one or the other, but not both at once. I tried riding fixed the day after going clipless, didnt think I liked fixed as a result, as it was a bit too much for me to take in.

Flipped back to ss for about a month until I was realy happy riding clipless, and then flipped back to fixed. I find it odd riding any bike now without clipless (I keep lifting my feet off the pedals on hills).
