  • This is my first post on here, but I have been browsing for some time...

I'm looking to build my first fixed gear bike up, just wondering if anyone on here has any frame & fork setup that i could purchase to get this off the ground!!

Ideally looking for an old steel road frame, around 58cm size. But after years of riding BMX, I'm used to riding an ill fitting bike, so could go a little either way on the size...

    Any ideas anyone??

    Cheers.

  • Nay chance, saw that thing on eBay and it reminds me of this:

    http://www.easternbikes.com/a/products/frames/GrimReaper/GrimReaper.html

...which is laughable in the bmx world too

  • Hi welcome,
Whats your budget? Style of frame? classic / modern.. Steel / alloy?
Classic raleigh on epay for £110. Its costly, but has bbeen faithfully restored. You could email an offer?
Shame that you missed out on the £99 langster framesets that were selling like hotcakes a couple of weeks back on Ebay..

  • Looking at something steel, (I'm not a fan of alloy frames), and preferably something a little older with lugs. Ideally for under £100.

That record ace on eBay does look nice though, may email him for more specs, and maybe put in a cheeky offer.

  • yeh i spotted that too. what, for the love of god, has he machined his seat tube out for? surely on a steel frame thats just asking for some loverly invisible, structurally compromising rust?

anyhow, id go for something steel, something with TRACK dropouts ( old style horizontal road dropouts work, but its so much neater, and easier chain tension wise to go with proper track dropouts on your first fixed build). oh and 120mm spacing for your rear hub is useful as it is easier to find a decent track hub to fit.
if your buying new, id recomend the following: On One Pompino (a little heavy, but bombproof, and ill be selling one in the next few weeks if your interested!)
Genesis flyer, soma Rush, EAI Bareknuckle (the last one is like rocking horse shit tho). Id try not to be tempted by some of the popular fixed shops 'own brand' framesets, Brick lane bikes does a frame and fork for £117, but the steel used on these is probably submarine grade (having said that ive not seen one in the flesh, they could be great value!)

  • Hi I have a Dunelt (made by the Phillips family in Birmingham then became part of Raleigh in 1960. )I think this frame was made in the 50's. I bought it about 3 years ago when it had just been resprayed.
I built it up as a fixed but as with a few other older frames I have have come to the conclusion they are too big for me - a good 2 inches more than my contemporary frames. (I'm 5' 6 or 7)
It is a lovely looking frame with beautiful logs and transfers + original badge. The respray has faded slightly since i bought it but it still looks good.

The frame size is 23" 58cm

Can send pics. (how do i include them here?)

    Looking for £75

  • go off the peg.

    OTP FTW

all the hepcat bombadiers are running OTP for 08.

    it's pegged.

  • logged.

off the peg, pegged and logged.

  • first the log, then the peg.

    progression, man.

  • then the peglog. it's like a log and a peg, together. fukken space age.

Sounds good! I private messaged you (at least i think thats what i did) with my email address, be awesome if you could send some pics of the frame through to me!!

I would love a full track frame as, like you say, they look so much neater and simpler to set up... But i was under the impression that i'd be looking at spending a fair few quid more to get hold of one, over say and old road frame.

the BLB F&F sets are only £117??? I thought that they were more expensive than that, maybe i should look into one!!

  • if your interested i have an white raleigh sprint frame its a 57" i could sell you for £70 has original head set and a shimano BB in it too and a set of strong light cranks with a 48t chain ring. Its also lugged and steel :)

its was my old bike but im not using it and i dont really have the space for it.

I'll post some pics up later if you like?

  • 57" !! I'm not a giant. haha.. :)

joking aside, yeah that sounds good, wouldn't mind seeing some pics of it, definately - are there forks to accompany it?

  • haha yeh sorry not 57" thats mental

    there are forks too

I'll sort out some pics this evening and put them up

  • wicked, cheers for that. ill check back later this evening....

  • heres the pics promised.
Its a bit dirty but with a bit of tlc and a clean should scrub up nicely. Also has english threading on it so none of that threading problems that people get with other raleighs.
Its just going to waste here but it rode really nicely. It was set up as my first fixed gear.

how i had it set up before.

  • Just thought I'd crash in on this thread.

Rideordie, is it 57" or not? I'm also looking for a first project frame, and ultimately have a Raleigh in mind. Could I also ask what the rear hub spacing is?

  • rideordie thanks for taking the time to post some pictures of your frame! looks rad, however, i spoke to a friend last night and he said he had an old raleigh road bike hanging about that i could pretty much have, so im sorted for a frame & fork now!!! thanks all the same...

uncleyacov it's all yours if your interested!

  • Uncleacov its yours if you want it. The rear spacing is 126mm i had no problems fitting a 120mm rear hub in it.

    no worries gypoben.

  • Hi rideordie,

been following the forums for a while, I'm also looking for a frame for my first fixie build. If frame is still available, I'm keen. Thanks, Rudy
