btw ellipses are double fixed -

hi brian, what do you mean by double fixed? dura acea are sweet

fixed on both sides, you can also put a freewheel on both too.

Cog is regular threading, so you're fine with that - I'm running an EAI on mine, if you care - however, lockring threading is FRENCH(!) so you'll need the Mavic lockring.
You may also need a spacer (I did). Go to a Mavic dealer and ask them to order you a set of lockrings and spacers - there's a specific spacer for this hub - and don't use any other lockring or you'll screw up (if you'll pardon the pun) the threading on your not-exactly-cheap hub.
Also, I corroborate briankwan's testimony - the Ellipse rear hub is definitely fixed on both sides. What I'm confused by is the fact that (although I'm assuming here) you didn't get the lockring and spacers included when you bought the wheels - I know I got two of each with mine.

Does not the ellipse have a 44mm chainline?
edit
businesscycles say it's 46mm.

turpe, you dont by any chance know any powder coating companies in london as i was thinking of getting some rims powder coated?
-

I'm in San Francisco, so a little out of the loop, but I believe Armortex in Hackney are still the folks to see about powdercoating in my old stomping grounds...

cool thanks for the advice with armourtex, will check em out. if too expensive as a one off job, i am looking into spraying them myself...... just need to find out whether i need a base coat and the best paint to use
hows the san fran scene for fixed gear? has the bicycle film festival been over there yet?

BFF comes soon.
SF is ridiculously full of people riding track bikes. Ridiculous.

Thread resurrection time.
Can any Mavic Ellipse owners (dulwichrider, stelle) confirm the chainline? Is it 44 mm or 46 mm? Thanks.

New purchase then eh? Good work
My Mavic (not ellipse) is on the wider side of a standard 42mm, no where near as far out as goldtechs 44mm, and I understand from those that use them at the track that the ellipse are the same.
To answer a question you didn't ask, chainreaction sell the mavic lockrings, and condor had some in too if you want one from in town

Lock ring already ordered. :-)
Thanks Guy, looks like a 111 mm bottom bracket will be perfect for Miche cranks then.

TBH I'd say you would be better off with the 109 that is in, with your miche. Give it a try before you order a new one.

I plan to but I'm not sure if it is JIS or ISO. Sugino 75 BB is NJS, no? Therefore, ISO?
-
• #17
what's got into you andyp? sniffing around powdercoated alloy track frames and a French set of wheels?
-
• #18
75 BB is ISO
I have run both ways round, Miche on 75 BB and 75's on Miche BB at different times.

More than sniffing, have acquired both alloy track frame and Mavic wheels.
There's a number of factors in play to be honest. I don't want to crash and damage the Casati, I think a more modern, stiffer frame and wheels will give me a little performance increase and, finally, Nokia got my redundancy wrong and have given me an additional payment. :-)

thanks for the vote of confidence but I'm afraid I'm technically more incompetent than you give me credit for. You lost me the minute you mentioned *chainline *and by ISO you were in a whole new language that I don't speak*. *
New wheels though, sounds exciting!

until you sell it to me.
i am currently riding the mavic ellipse free wheel. i have a flip flop hub and want to convert to fixed.
guy at evans mentioned that it is best to get the lockring and cog direct from mavic. something to do with the spacing.... can anyone shed some light on this? perhaps riders who have converted from a free to a fixed setup with mavic ellipses.
thanks
