Trade: Kryptonite lock

  • Ello,

I have a Kryptonite Keeper 2515 Armored Cable which is great, but way too big for me to keep carrying around:

Anyone fancy trading it with me for something smaller but as tough? I'm after something like the HardWire 2085 or 2510.

    Cheers

  • get a mini D

  • +1

You might as well not bother locking up with cable locks.

Mmmn - Mini D's are good - and pretty hard to break I hear. But It is nice being able to wrap a larger lock round a lamp post etc

How much are they worth? I got the lock free as my work bought them for all the cycling employees, just as a ploy to stop us bringing our bikes into the building.

  • if you want a cable type lock, get an abus granite.

I may well do, thank you.

  • How much are mini d locks or the lock you were given? The kryptonite mini d is about £30; don't know for the latter.

The only cable lock I would consider is the abus one 31trum mentioned, but I'd still reluctant... I am slightly paranoid, though.

  • you neve can be tooooo sure

these are rebadged generic locks sold under a whole variety of names.

They are all the same inside where they are held together by a 7mm steel cord which can easily be cut with a pair of brake cable cutters or even a small pair of basic pliers.
The casing has no effect as in addition to it being piss weak, you can prise it open by twist the lock with your hands.

These locks are horribly misleading, and the branded ones like kyrptonite are horribly overpriced. I had a pair of those locks, and a really basic bike got pinched a a very safe area while locked up. My confusion was cleared up when I carefully had a look at what it was made out of. There are many reviews of the kryptonite version on the net and even a video or two of them being easily lopped on yout tube. They are exactly the same as mine, which are completely worthless.

  • i'll trade it for a shoe lace

nicely put. I would never ever use a cable lock of any sort in or around any town. I have used one to chain my GF's shopper in a village once, and even that was where I could see both bikes.
