  • Cycle in comfortable cycle gear with clothes in backpack. Arrive sweaty. Shower / wipes & spitwash. Change into work clothes.

Sweaty back doesn't bother me. I'm sweating all over anyway (sorry - hope you're not eating lunch) so need to clean up. I don't seem capable / can't see any point in riding slowly.
It disgusts me when I see blokes in wool suits barrelling along - they must honk later in the day. Ugh.

  • I saw Boris Johnson cranking along Faringdon Road on a Brompton a couple of years ago.

He was in a wool suit and looked rather over-heated ...

  • Nice racks:

  • Platini - why are you spoiling this forum for me?
I come here for bicycle banter.
Dont appreciate this stuff on my screen (at work).
See plenty of boobs / moobs in real life.

  • Utterly useless, there's no way I could hang my Ortliebs on it.

Sorry, that wasn't my intention. It was just a pun. I'll cease forthwith. :-(

  • Cool thanks - down with boobs!

  • is that like the inverse of a plastic surgeons motto. pert and perky i believe is the way forward. :)

  • get a rucksack/backpack/daypack whatever you want to call it. There's a load of em about with special designs to ensure airflow between your back and the pack itself. My Vaude one (http://www.theoutdoorgearshop.co.uk/acatalog/Vaude_Triset_25___4_.html) does a great job.

  • If panniers aren't your cup of tea then a backpack with foam padding which allows ventilation would be best.

    Ortelieb Velocity works quite well:

Er, no it doesn't. My back is positively drenched using that backpack. What DOES happen, though, is you get a really cool sweat pattern on your back. :)

tombola, the best answer is, ride in a synthetic/quickdry material/merino top, with your good top in your bag, go straight to the bathroom when you get to work, and swap over. Job's a goodun. If you get a quick drying cycling top, it'll be fine for the ride home. :)

  • I'm bringin' sweaty back
Them other boys they don't know how to act.

  • the ortlieb works for me... but i ride in speedos

  • if you ride quick you are gonna get a sweat on, bag, nobag, panniers, no panniers, whatever so like someone said take a towel, spare shirt etc and change at work. ride slower (?) will help but less fun maybe. above all, dont wear cotton tshirt unless you really want to hum...

or if you are like me, you hardly sweat at all, and on the offchance you do, you wont smell...

  • If you were a bloke and asking all this stuff about sweating and rucksacks etc they would tell you to HTFU.

  • oh god, not another Jolie trance...
