• Thanks all.

Farewell speech and language therapy, hello librarianship & information science. Inevitable really, seeing as most SLTs are from straightsville, and most librarians have weird and wonderful alter-egos (phantom users, anyone?).

Too weird for the straights, and too straight for the weirdos. Story of my life :S

• "I am at an awkward stage in my life, too old to be a drunk but yet too young to be a wineo"

• TheBrick(Tommy) That is the best defense ever.
"I misjudged your speed."

*mis·judge (mis-juhj)
–verb (used with object), verb (used without object), -judged, -judg·ing.

to judge, estimate, or value wrongly or unjustly.
*

Key word - 'wrongly'. So, how come if the motorist is admitting he was in the wrong, the Plod have decided it's not his fault? Answer? Because our friends in blue - much like most drivers - think that cyclists are the scum of the earth and shouldn't be on the road in the first place.

I hope you bankrupt him.

• BringMeMyFix @Evilmonkey - what degree did you 'interrupt then? And what (boring) job filled the void?

Well maybe not as similar a situation as all that, mainly agreeing on the changing jobs / less commute aspect.

Am a teacher and was trying to avoid writing reports for pupils. Had a second wind though and finished all but one class off...

• Could do better.

• ...Doesn't the fact that the police interviewed you mean that the driver of the van decided to press charges against you?

Bare in mind that I have only ever been inside a police station once and that was to rescue a monged out flatmate, so i know fcuk all about the british legal system...

• Copy & paste, the teachers report writing friend...

• nice one for getting the job mash*..........hey mark! thats the nastiest thing i've ever seen!put it away!

*in the south(Hampshire/Portsmouth) people say mush.....as you would say "alright mate"....any how i knew this skaghead who was so fucked all the time he couldn't speak properly...when he said mush it sounded like mash...so me and my brother wound him up about it,i don't think he realized being so fucked and all but it kind of stuck.

• *Always nice to get some sociolinguistic background ;)

• markrjohnson
dogsballs
markrjohnson I'm not riding to work at the moment as a blind twat in a wheeled coffin pulled out on me two weeks ago.
"Sorry mate, didn't see you"
Brand new Givi fluorescent yellow jacket, white lid, and TWO flashing white Smart LEDS.

So I was a bit hard to spot.
Anyway, back to the point: I am now bionic. I have 15cm of stainless steel holding my right radius together.

Apparently I got up and lamped the git on the chin. As I had a bad concussion and was unconcious for 4 hours, I don't remember this part (shame).
So at the moment I don't ride, walk, or anything really.
Just shout at the kids to get me another beer.

Toodle pip.

bad luck dude, bones heal quick though, hope nothing is too fubar!

unfortunately riding in london we know this can happen to any of us. also one of my pet gripes about numpty cyclists who think they are 'safe' riding to work as long as they have all the flouro kit. but they will learn. not directed at u mrj!
I was wearing fluoro gear and a lid 30 years ago when everyone really did think I was a numpty.
Toodle pip.
Good news!

Back on the steed. Had it checked out by my friendly local frame builder and it turns out it fared better then me!

Total cost: One pringled front rim!!

On balance would have rather bent the bike properly and not broken my arm, but thats the way it goes.

Toodle pip

• Coolio well done for getting back in the saddle. In such a cheery manor.

• Not all good, Mr Bone doctor says I've been a bad boy and have to stop pedalling for a few mor weeks or risk loosening the bone screws.

Bugger!!

Toodle pip

• My love affair with ped-commuting is over :(

• !!!!

Back to the Lexus hey?

• All the dolers drive a Lexus, fe real.

• No action to be taken about him pulling out. Apparently he misjudged my speed. Apparently cyclists should only do 12 - 15 mph. I was chugging along at 20mph. So, apparently, its my fault. Apparently.

i'd be interested to see where it says that cyclists have different speed limits to those generally imposed on the roads

• walking to work.

er, epic fail. no?

• BringMeMyShoes

• 'Yeah, well I'm sitting here now...

Was as far as the geezer who tried that on with me.

anyway to answer the question my grimpeur friend asked. I take the train to work 'most' of the time. a couple of days I'll ride my bike. Maybe 3. trying to do everyday but struggling with the logistics of having to wear smart, uncreased clothes to work now.

Take train to work on Monday. Deposit suit or jacket/trousers combo and changes of shirt for the rest of the week. Pick up dirty stuff from last week. Return home, pack towels etc in backpack. Ride in the rest of the week.

• b) get lycra suit.

• Just cycle anyway! Quite simple really.. I could get to college in 20 minutes every day walking but I choose to get there in 5 by cycling.

I did the latter because that mean an extra 10 minutes in bed.

I know it's only an extra 10 minutes, but it's *my *10 minutes.

that's sort of what I'm thinking. I have suits and trousers there already and we have a dry cleaners in our building.

I'm thinking about getting my shirts cleaned in the dry cleaners it's not cheap but it's a 10th of the price of a train ticket.

That would enable me to do everyday and it's a short enough distance that only real bad ice would stop the journey.
