• Frank Glass Rapha do a neat small back pack, I believe...v. expensive though, as you would expect...prolly above budget, but worth taking a look at

nice, but a little undersized and overbudget.

  • I'd recommend the Camelbak Octane over the HAWG. It expands for more volume, I have the larger of the two the 14+ (I think its called) and its brilliant, not strictley a cycling Camelbak but better than most of the offerings of the size. Loads of features and nice long starps for my muscley chest/moobs... Search around on the net and you can pick them up at a good price.

  • Ogio make pretty good rucksacks. I have the Ogio Vega which I got in the wiggle sales for a tenner, crc still selling them for £15. Seperate compartment for laptop/folder, and plenty of pockets/wallets. However, water did seep through once in heavy rain after an hour. Otherwise very comfortable and pleased with it. Also been in the washing machine several times with no problems.

  • I have an Addict backpack, had it about 7 years, used daily more or less. Only just starting to wear but has been heavily used from bike stuff to going to university carrying loads of books e.t.c. I can fit my laptop, mouse, power supply lunch box small tool kit, pump, mini dlock, wather proof jacket , change of shirt, socks, pants into the main section JUST (I know this bag well and have worked out how to packit). Plus it has some nice straps on the outside to strap a jumper or other stuff to.

If I was looking for another backpack of this size again I would check addict out. In genral I think looking up BMX / skating backpacks should give you what you need. Better proportions than a hiking back pack and about the size you want, hard wearing e.t.c.DAKINE make good rucksacks too.

  • I've got one from the Edinburgh cycle co-operative. It's pretty much exactly what you're looking for.
Think it was about £40 or £50. It's what I use for laptop, lunch, etc. It expands if you need it bigger, has a pocket for a hydration thing, has loops for bike lights, a rain cover, special helmet strap thing, you name it... Best thing is the mesh back which keeps the bag off your back and stops it getting so sweaty.
Think they had a few different sizes when I bought it.

The old Addict bags are good, but the new ones are SHIT. They just fall apart straight away. Shoulder straps on mine fell off the other day (second time) and my mate's zip just tore off.
    Not worth the £60!

  • check blacks - karrimor rucksacks cheap as chupa chups and last for ages.

That is sad, Addict have had such a good reputation it will be a shame if they have gone down hill.

I do think though the BMX / skate rucksacks are the ones to look for.

EDIT: Eastpak is another good brand

  • anything by karrimor top quality kit and british to boot

  • dicki anything by karrimor top quality kit and british to boot
and a man with a beard made it!

  • Karrimor good!
Better: I bought a Macpac (a large one, 60l I think) last year for hiking and travel. It's bloomin excellent, tough, super good back padding design, the best I've ever owned. Maybe they have decent little ones I dunno.

  • Deuter Futura 28L

Had one of these for ages. Good for walking/cycling, has a mesh airflow system, pouch for water and a rain cover.

Plus it is German, thus super efficient...

  • Get yourself down to TKmaxx for a rucksack. Hammersmith one is pretty good.

  • Heej Bill,

I have a new Scott cycling rucksack. Whisper me your email if you want some pics.

  • Hi Scott, I'd like to view your bags. Do you have a website?

  • Scott, do you have a link to some pics of your grobags?

  • he has a lot on his myspace... i dont have a space or i would go and get you all the url.

  • we gots yo back blud

  • I'm looking for opinions for a good backpack.

I'm looking for something of 42/45 liters capacity, ideally with a cordura outer/vinyl inner liner, with a good number of pockets.

If you have any first hand experience, especially with things like Lemolo, Archie, Freight, Wig etch... please let me know.

  • I'd go with dakine.
served me well for years and years.
The guide/ poacher/ outtabounds should work for ya.

  • jus got myself a nice bag . . .
visvim E-cat, in love with it

but its not a backpack lol

hideout got a nice burton polka dot 52L

  • Most people obviously ride with messenger bags (getting one as well, hurry up scott) but I also want a rucksack. Need one with an inbuild pocket that fits my 15 inch apple laptop. Had a look at the Rapha one today but not convinced. It has a a padded pocket but that doesn't close at the top. Needs to be more protective.
Used to have this one: http://www.brenthaven.co.uk/catalog-apple-pro-15-17.html
Very good (got away with just a tiny dent in my last crash) but made for a 17 inch laptop, not 15 and a bit too big since I downgraded.
    Any advice what to get?

  • If your not trying to make a fashion statement, just need something neat & tidy that works.

I have a Techair 3704 still in the wrapper that I would exchange for a small number of GN.
