OK, this is tomorrow! I am about to go and do my first and only recon ride now.
If anyone wants to help out (thanks Illy!) I'll be shooting through the Angel -> Essex road part at about 6:15->30.
I'm using the route given in tomasito's post on the first page. I quite like Lebowski's idea but don't know the areas so well.
Bring it on.

BTW, it'll be blowing a tailwind tomorrow, according to the weather sites :-)

COME ON MASH... whats your ratio?
-
• #80
What time are you leaving work? I could do from the start until Angel or so....
-
• #81
I'll be leaving HIgh St Ken at 6pm.
My ratio is 20 lovely changeable gears on my Wilier road bike. This is roadie scum all the way. Lycra included.

good luck keepin up tomasito ;)

eek!
But I've got 'tache bars AND a red bike, which easily makes up for having just the one gear.

-
• #86
i may join for the start if i can make it. good luck mate.

I want to join you in this Phileas Fogg- styled challenge, Mashton. I'll be waiting near the junction of Upper St and Essex Rd to catch you 6.15-6.30. I'll be on a fashionably white Pinnacle .
...not sure I'll make it as a domestic though, seeing as I don't even own a duster... -

Hmm work is prob gonna keep me away from this one. Damn colleagues going on holiday...Good luck Matt & ride safe.
-
• #89
good luck and reveal the outcome please. I need some motivation for my daily 17 miles 65 minutes commute.
-
• #90
Ahh.. poo.. I only just got back and my Central Line derailing kit hasn't arrived in the post yet. Next time Gadget, next time!
-
• #91
good luck tomorrow. And just be careful. don't go over 'every' red light. From my experience you always beat the tube anyway. Whenever we go out my wife takes the tube home and I go on the bike. I have always been there way before here. Even when its more than an hour ride. So you will win anyway.

6pm start... damn - the tube gets crappier every minute after 5pm, and yet I imagine the likelihood of support for Mashton gets better, so fair enough.
I want to highlight that Mashton conveniently 'forgot' to bring his tent into work prior to today, so I now have to lug it from Epping tube station to my house as part of the race.... is this cheating? ;-)
Good luck cyclists... I am unsure who I would put money on right now, but it's going to be a tough race, for Mashton anyway! Heh.

• #93
Hanbibo 'conveniently forgets' to mention that he is travelling with another poker player who can carry the tent :-)

split screen film?

Thanks for the support guys. it looks like the two meeting places are:
Wright's Lane, outside EMI, KKensington (W8 5SW) for a prompt 6pm departure.
Junction of Upper St and Essex Road near Angel for 6:20-6:30ish.If there are people who want to jump on around Dalston / Lea Bridge Rd then just hang on the side of the road and look out for a Rollapaluza kit wearing guy on a red / black / white Wilier.
Shame we haven't sorted out the filming aspect of this, but I have been far too pre-occupied. I may look into mounting my Canon Ixus on my helmet but if it is at all dodgy then I'm not into it. I obviously don't want to be worried about stuff falling off whilst I am hammering it.

I took my camera into work today, so I will get some video and pics of the boring journey!
Not that anyone here would stoop to such levels, but I hope that the current state of the tube network is entirely unrelated to anyone rehearsing for tonight:
HAMMERSMITH & CITY LINE: Suspended throughout due to faulty communications equipment.
DISTRICT LINE: Suspended throughout due to faulty communications equipment.
CIRCLE LINE: Suspended due to a signal failure at West Kensington.
BAKERLOO LINE: Suspended between Queens Park and Elephant & Castle, minor delays elsewhere, due to faulty communications equipment.

You know in the Italian job when the shut down the traffic system in Turin with clockwork, magnetic, black boxes?
Watch out fella - green lights for me, tube tangle for you!

on tuesday I proved again that versus cars/ buses, I am still the most efficient way of getting from putney to london. Ran in to Piccadilly, beat a friend on the bus by half an hour. At a non-rush hour time of midday as well.
-
• #99
Inner London is easy. It's the outer London bit that adds the challenge, which we all know man like mashton can rise to.

good luck matt. and take care out there. we'll be drinking to your victory out west
I'm totally up for this. I work near Barbican, so give me a junction to meet you at and a time and I'll be there lycra-ed to the teeth, ready to lead you out for the final sprint.
