It's ideal for a courier - they could carry packages or documents in the slot in the seat tube.

I'd hazard that it is no more torsionally stiff than it is laterally compliant... :-)

Rather more worried about the bottom of the seat tube being machined out to "save wate". Will also save on stability and integrity in an otherwise survivable accident.

Not entirely sure I would be prepared to buy a bike of someone with such a perverse aversion to spelling and gramar either.

only time this is a good idea is if you put material back in to fill the hole. or make it heavier if you will its for the looks of it only no benefit at all. as for machining off the seat clamp WHY? it makes the bike look wrong and will move the stress down to the stays and welds.
