    Fixed wheel is by far the easiest most comfortable way to ride up a hill. When your getting used to it, going flat out down hills and letting yourself 'spin' can be a little daunting.

    Hence the two brakes being reccomended.

    Also lightweight road bikes give a much more comfortable plush ride as they are rather flexible. An older bike with a longer wheelbase increases on this effect, but it it feels best to ride a post 80's lightweight steel road bike with sharp handling if you are going fixed. Vintage bikes with Longer wheelbase bike better for coasting I think.
