  • This is how I lock my bike if I want to be sure that it's there for a prolong period of time (just pretend the long metal stick is a lamp post or summat);

    Sheldon Brown method is this, thought I didn't dare to try it as it might give the theft the wrong idea that I lock my bike up badly and try and attempt to removed it;

awesome, awesome. I am convinced this is the route to go. thanks man!

oh and do you ride your fixed on normal flats?

get the RH crank in to fill the space in the U lock.

  • I ride with normal flats, clip-on aren't an option since you can't get a converse with a clip-on in it, also after speeding down kennington's on very bumpy road occasionally getting my feet thrown off the pedals, a strap seemed like a good idea now.

toe clips maybe? nice steel cages with leather straps is what i just put on mine.

  • I find the mini fug really hard to get around things. Lamp posts and stuff are too wide. Wish I got a normal mini now.

  • where can I buy them mini lock on-line I have been meaning to get one for an age

yeh i tend to agree, the fug is well heavy and your limited to what you can actually lock it too. Quite often you have to put the bike further away just to find something suitable, which may result in components going missing instead.

I'd consider something different if I was looking again...

I know the geezer who runs cyclope - now I got an excuse to go there - not for the first time you are brilliant adoubletap - thanks

  • and you fred you are a good bloke and all

  • I got both mini locks (Fug and Evo) from Cyclexpress myself but that Cyclope price was super reasonable.

  • Geezer called Michel runs Cyclopes he is a pretty decent bloke they call him Fixiebrown over here I have been meaning to go down there and take a look but I never needed nothing but I am fed up with carrying heavy looks I need summit little

  • and you fred you are a good bloke and all

    :-)

    even tho I'm not :-P

  • I got the Fah from America, £45.

the best thing is when I check those document thing that they stick on the parcel - the shop claim that the lock is worth $9.99.

no wonder it got through custom without getting charged.

so what would you get then? if the fug is too small that it actually causes inconvenience, then would the ny3000 be a better choice?

  • NY3000 is what I use (with a krypto evo mini).

Never had any problems locking up with it. If there's space left in the lock, I try and fill it the cranks.

two ridiculously heavy locks, and all your component still unprotected.

I would say its not worth the weight of carrying a second quality mini-d as they are indeed ssssoo heavy. And when your using it just to attach your front wheel to your frame its even more silly.

One D lock preferably going through chain ring, and a simple cheapo detterrent cable going through wheel etc is better I think.

bars/stem can still come off , of course. But on my bikes I tend to modify the stem so its not easy to take off.

  • new lock arrived yesterday, wow what a difference, i used to think my old chain was quite thick

    wow, what a whopper!

do you have a full pic or the name of it?

I'm buying myself time, not infinite, component can be easily be replaced, bike frame, wheels, etc. are not usually.

I carry the Evo Mini with me, I only carry the Fah when I need to lock it for a longer time, and Evo Mini's ridiculously heavy??? have you weight that thing? it's not even heavy compared to the Fah,

  • I use the Fah, it's 'just' big enough to go around things.

  • and Evo Mini's ridiculously heavy???,

your right I havent felt an EVO. it looked similar to a fagghettaboutit so I thought itd weigh the same.

I realise all looks just buy time.

ANY lock no matter how thick heavy and strong, melts away like butter under a blowtorch. That is the kind of lengths organised bike thieves go to, taking vanfuls of bikes.

  • your right I havent felt an EVO. it looked similar to a fagghettaboutit so I thought itd weigh the same.

The Fah weight 2.2kg, nearly twice as much than the EVO (1.3kg).

it slighty bigger than the evo which is nice considering how thick it is.

  • How?
