  • ^ I can't hear the word "lush" without thinking of the 4 bristolians I lived with in my first year of uni. It's not a good thing.

ha ha... yeah i lived with two bristolians... when they said it back then, made me wanna kick them in the teeth.

  • cycling in the morning is gert lush. it's my ideal of riding.

  • Midnight in RP. Very different from the day.

  • "ooooh my gowd that is soooo
    "

  • its a joy to be riding in the sunshine at the moment. having said that the experience is diminished by pollution and new cyclists who are a menace on the roads. i was pissing myself at some of the oddities racing past me last night on the embankment.

I love laps of Richmond Park on a sunny and calm day, although I haven't cycled nights after its closed to cars...must do that soon. Can't beat the feeling of cycling a solid hour or two.

  • Midnight on Hampstead Heath. Very different from the day.

    :D

  • btw Jack Kerjamas cracked me up, as did "going for a job at Rapha."

it was 4am and my mind was wandering....

  • fatbloke I do love your Gillott rather a lot, have done since I saw that pic on fgg.

    • Very late at night, just before sun comes up.

    • No commute gear (bag/helmet/lock).

    • Appropriate, deep, urban soundtrack in the ear (Bladerunner OST/Burial/Carl Craig).

// although, on reflection i'm almost as happy walking around london in these conditions too.

  • I used to love riding my Royal Mail bike across town on the way to the sorting office at 5am. Not a car in sight and during the warmer months it's just getting light.

  • Early in the morning I find very nice. Quiet and clear roads.

  • fatbloke I do love your Gillott rather a lot, have done since I saw that pic on fgg.

Thanks mate. Looks less good with sixteen stone of salad-dodger hunched over it. If I ever get to one of these LFGSS rides/beers you can have a go on it.

    I liked your post.

  • blissful August when all the Frenchies go to the beach

  • I'm with yer too.

Dalston to Greenwich, 2am, maybe a Thursday. You buzz off the hood vibe and the jaywalkers as you head down Kingsland; keep sharp through the fucked club kids and the queues for Herbal and you make a break for Shoreditch at the Old Street lights. Once you've made it to Spitalfields the crowds dissipate after the Golden Heart; you shoot up Commercial Road and it's busy and fast. The traffic subsides as you turn into the back streets of Limehouse. You swing through a walkway and come out suddenly on the Thames, wide and grand and bearing right as it runs down to Greenwich. It's quite a vista - Canary Wharf towers above you just to your left; the river stretches east towards Woolwich and west to a central London you now feel so far from. It's quiet. The sound of the water stills the air. You run up some steep steps - hoisting your bike - and once you're down on Westferry road past the traffic light roundabout you can turn off for the Thames path. Now, with the river calm and ink blue, with the lights of a thousand riverside apartments flickering on the lapping waters: you, alone, pedalling across the night, living a London so few ever manage to feel.

pajamas I want to do this ride with you one day, please!!

  • Friday night, nine or nine thirty. Three pints in my belly and radio in the bag (it's no fun if they don't race). Old St really is a race track.

  • double early... like 5.30am chiswick to bricklane and back on a sunday when every one is asleep!

slipping quitely back in buzzing and aching like f@@k!

  • @joe, you at chiswick?

  • Early's always a good 'un. 5 or 6am, when it's still fresh and quiet and just getting light.

    • Very late at night, just before sun comes up.

    • No commute gear (bag/helmet/lock).

    • Appropriate, deep, urban soundtrack in the ear (Bladerunner OST/Burial/Carl Craig).

// although, on reflection i'm almost as happy walking around london in these conditions too.

    good call on the soundtrack!

  • i like traffic riding in rush hour when the traffic jams allow you to fly past the cars,,,,,,,,, but i think midnight riding is a little bit more peaceful and relaxed. I like both

  • yes mate! grove park side! you?

  • yep, rush hour, flying past cars stranded in gridlock, and even more i like riding at 5/6am up some big north london hill then sitting at the top and admiring the view!

  • i like to go out very (06:00) early and have the roads to myself... whilst the numbty car drivers are still at home.

  • 4 in the morning on the deserted banks of the sankey canel and river mersey. me and 2 geared friends travelling by the light you carry with you only. high speed buzzing of startled carp fishing fools as you wizz from point to point. amazing riding only beaten by the perfect ride the one where everything clicks into place your pace rises and you find yourself catching cars on climbs. sitting in the pub waiting for to go dark is fun too. :)
