Shimano Nexus Hybrid - Any Ideas?

my dad wants a new bike for his short commute and has his heart set on a nexus set up. Has anyone seen anything of this ilk around the £300-400 mark? (edit: pref 7/8 speed)

I am googling right now, but thought i'd ask as well.

Whats Nexus like to ride? Obviously its the same system but does it ride like a Sturmey Archer 3 speed or more like a 5 speed deralieur?

Carrera subway 8 is pretty nice, even has roller cam brakes.

They pop up regular on ebay & gumtree.
