This is how I lock my bike if I want to be sure that it's there for a prolong period of time (just pretend the long metal stick is a lamp post or summat);
Sheldon Brown method is this, thought I didn't dare to try it as it might give the theft the wrong idea that I lock my bike up badly and try and attempt to removed it;
two ridiculously heavy locks, and all your component still unprotected.
I would say its not worth the weight of carrying a second quality mini-d as they are indeed ssssoo heavy. And when your using it just to attach your front wheel to your frame its even more silly.
One D lock preferably going through chain ring, and a simple cheapo detterrent cable going through wheel etc is better I think.
bars/stem can still come off , of course. But on my bikes I tend to modify the stem so its not easy to take off.
