you'd be amazed what people will take on freecycle.org
also, you'll be amazed what you can recycle at your local recyling centre.
i went today, there were places for old electrical stuff etc -

the shit in the bin
the rest give it away, here in the forum is a good place, make a thread in Classifieds & Shopping and put offer or free, ask for beer money if you think the thing is valuable if not put free. if something is in good stay ask for ££££. -

I've got rid of loads of shit on freecycle in the past but these days I just use the kentish town streetcycle scheme. Not that it's a scheme, it's just the way things are round here. If you don't want it put it out on the street and it'll be gone in half an hour. I've got rid of tons of stuff that way, it all goes to a good home.

A bike shop I regular visit mainly restores old donated bikes,
they put all the crap in big bins, brake cables, gears, saddles etc all mixed up.
And metal scrap people are still happy to take it. offering cash too if theres enough metal in it.
OK, I am a compulsive hoarder. I decided it was time to go through all my old bags of bits, and discovered that for every bit of work I've done on my bikes I've kept literally everything.
I mean, even the snipped off bits of old brake cable. Everything.
So I have two questions which I need answering:
1) What's the most ethical way to dispose of things which really don't work any more. Like things which are rusted to shit, plain broke, or bits of old cable? I don't really want them in landfill, but who would want such things?
2) I have lots of things which someone somewhere might want, but which really arn't valuable enough to ebay (manky pedals, out-of-date components, etc). What's the best way to get rid of / possibly sell these?
