A lot of the 80's CrMo tubesets were a bit flexi, which probably inspired the early Alu and Carbon frames (remember the Peugeot Fibre de Carbone? http://velospace.org/node/942)
If you lean the bike against a wall and apply some foot-based force to the end of the BB axle, the framewill probably deflect much further than you might expect.
SLX, IIRC, is the "lightweight" version of SL.
