My chainring needs replacing after 3000 miles. Is this average wear & tear?
Its a steel 42T chainring that came with a new cheap pair of DOTEK cranks. I think the chanring must have ben fitted slightly off centre as some of the teeth grouped together are worn with rough edges. The chain was replaced at 1500 miles and kept fairly clean.
I am now going to replace the chainring, sprocket and chain. The old miche 15T sprocket doesn't look too bad, but not worth the chance of it buggering my new drivetrain.
I am going to buy an EAI 1/8 sprocket, and KMC Z510HX 1.8 chain. Any pointers on a good steel chainring? I need a 5 spoke 130BCD 3/32 chainring. I would like to increase the number of teeth on the front chainring, but the 130BCD may be a limiting factor. Gear inches to be kept around 74".
