Playswellwitotters I am keenly tempted to join the wheelbuilding collective BUT! if you're keen only to ride singlespeed then it makes much more sense than to buy a budget wheelset from shimano (r500/r550) that not only looks the shit but is really a great set of wheels. I rode for 2 years single speed on a 105 wheelset and loved it. In fact I may well go back! If you have no wish to go fixed, save yourself a bunch of cash, dodge the zeitgeist, get all nerdy in your component selection and boast in six month'd time that you have a sparkling pair of shimano 600 calipers that you're popping on your new ss. And glow with pride.
