Hey Mattestall, If you want to learn how to build your own, there's still space on the wheel building class this saturday – we’re all novices at this, so will be helping one another. If you can get the bits together (there’s some advice on the thread below, plus SmallBrownBike may still be able to source 2nd hand parts if you PM him), take them along and you'll end up with a wheel to exactly the spec you can afford to build, and you'll feel chuffed when you ride away on it!

Was in exactly the same position last week. If you are london based pop over to Decathlon in Surrey Quays, bought a sweet looking Rigida Flyer complete wheel with black hub and rim for £20.

Thought it was fairly reasonable!

Hi,
I had a crash yesterday and my front wheel has the "Pringle syndrome", too.I'd like to take up dodanto's or cheesecake's offer (without jumping the queue of course). Are they still on?

Wow. First post and it recieves such a wave of genorisity. You lot are excellent. Given my pitiful financial situation I guess I'll have to take Cheescake up on his/her offer if it still stands (sorry lenni). Whereabouts are you located? Also, thanks again.

i have an old wheelset that someone can have for free if they come pick them up. front is i think some old campag hub on an old mavic ma40 - may be slightly out of true. rear is some campag jobby with an old 6 speed cassette. these aren't great wheels but they are free - if nothing else the front has got to be good for a polo build - came with a bike i only wanted the frame for. pick up hackney

Wow. That was cool. Thanks jonny and dale (who brought a wheel back from the dead)!

how serendipitous for mr dogsballs to roll by lenni. you are a lucky young man to have that pro wield his spoke key and big brick at your front wheel. oh, and go fixed dude, and stop falling off ;)

A magician indeed! This wheel was pronounced dead by pretty much everybody I showed it too.
Thanks again, dogsballs.

Sorry to resurrect this one but, having never got round to replacing my shitty front wheel it went rather out of true. Trying to correct this problem I managed to round off the nipple on a couple of spokes and now can't really correct the problem. So I'm still after a front wheel if anyone has one. I will give you money. It'll be great.

If you take the tyre, tube and rim tape off you can use a flat head screwdriver to do the same thing as a spoke wrench (provided the spokes are not sticking too far through the nipples). While in this state though, you may as well replace the damaged spokes. Just take the current ones to a shop and ask for new ones the same size. Why all the chucking of usable wheels? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
I'm tired of my loose-spoked rattling front wheel on my beat up Raleigh conversion and, lacking the knowledge to build one myself, wondered if any of you folk have something you could sell me on the cheap? Thanks.
